I am thinking about buying a BF XR8 Ute (maybe a F6) but am a bit concerned about feul costs. All the magazines say they are extremely thirsty and some say up to 23l/100 is not uncommon in the Pursuit. Can that be right?

I am driving 40k's per day in the traffic. Mostly stop start and cruising (speed limit) and the odd squirt :)

I loves the looks but I don't want to spend what the car is worth in 2 years on fuel.

I know it is a performance car and all of that but it still needs to be reasonable.

Thanks.

I've got an F6 Typhoon and drive it pretty hard and am averaging 15.1 at the moment. Wouldn't listen to the magazine reviews too much when it comes to that.

It all depends on how you drive and use them. Like any car drive it hard or slug it in stop start traffic it will drink the fuel.

mate I got an xr6 turbo ute running bigger injectors, fuel pump, boost etc etc and last fortnight I've been driving to tafe which is a 60km round trip in stop start traffic. I got about 450km to the tank and I was giving it a fair bit. normally I get about 600kms to the tank on my way to work in no traffic so I was pretty happy with the economy. my average consumption sits on about 12.5, drops often to 12.1 when I just drive conservative but it's hard to!

my mate has an xr8 ute and he gives it alot and he gets about 18l/100kms.

My wifes tuned F6 Typhoon is returning 12.6 L/100K at 41 KMPH Ave speed.

My SP Ute is returning 13.8 L/100K at 48 KMPH Ave speed.

They are both auto's and are driven half metro area / half rural area.

Mine will use anywhere between 99.9 (that's all the instantaneous gauge goes to) and 8.9 (cruising on the h'way)

Does getting the ECU retuned (I think you call it getting it flashed) increase power and improve economy too?

I expect them to drink a bit and I have had other V8's before. I just don't want to get one and think OMG what have I done! The utes are an awesome car but I don't want to go broke just to drive one.

I do 20k's each way from Balmain to Brookvale every day.
