the standard intercooler is restrictive due to the 180 degree bend it has on its end tank. If you don't want to change anything then fit an intercooler water spray. That will help it cool down. Have it operate at a certain throttle opening!

This is why people run cold air intakes, to get the outside air unaffected by heat from the engine.

There is big gains to be had (particularlly on a forced induction engine) of getting the car to breath as efficiently as possible.

Cold air intake, hi-flo filter, possible changes to airbox and MAF (Mass airflow meter) exhaust manifold, hi-flo cat, exhaust and muffler etc etc.

This is what I'm thinking about. *Love* the way the car pulls on a cold evening and it would be nice to have that kind of responsiveness 24/7.

I'm beginning to get the feeling that the EMS definitely doesn't limit torque to 450NM...

l am sure its not my imagination, there is defintely a large difference in responsiveness early in the morning compared to a warm day. l wonder what a larger intercooler could do??

well, according to one of the guys I spoke to today, paul weel fitted a larger intercooler, exhaust and cranked up the boost on an XR6T as was getting 305fwkw!!! I don't know if that's true, but it sounds pretty much spot on!

Sounds wicked Mr Plow.

Do you know if he did anything to strengthen the driveline? You would think that over time that sort of power is going to break something.

l think an exhaust change and an uprated intercooler would be the two simplest and 'safe' mods to the car, maybe in 12 months when there is a bit more history on how Ford handle warranty claims on modded cars l may consider one or both.

well...

the T5 should handle the power unless you drive flat-stick for a while. you'll crunch it eventually. I know of a guy with a 5.7L (stroker) XR8 with something like 230rwkw and his standard 'box was coping quite well. however, I've hardly ever seen him drive flat-out.

the differential should be able to handle it, but you'll probably shorten its life considerably.

all in all, if you're planning on modding your XR6T I'd advise you sus out the XR8 gearbox, or talk to someone about getting a T3650 (same box as in the T3 and Pursuit ute). they can cope with pretty much anything you throw at them!
