I never mentioned Performance mode :stirthepot:

Thanks again guys,

I'll be the first to admit I'm new to the world of cars that can go fast.

The only 3 cars I've ever owned and regularly driven were extremely sluggish at best, at that's what I'm used to:

1) Honda Civic 1973 1.2L 4 speed Semi-Automatic 50Kw

2) Ford Laser 1992 1.6L 4speed Auto 67Kw

3) Toyota Camry 1994 4 cylinder 2.2L 4speed auto 89Kw

Now: XR6T BF MkII, ZF 6speed auto. When I first heard the straight six growl at somewhere over 3500rpm, I thought of Scotty from Star Trek, yelling "Cap’n... she canna take any more. She’s gonna blow!".

Barry,

I thought if I were going flat out, I'd best have it in performance (sports) auto mode.

Doesn't the car shift a little later (I.e. higher rpms) in that mode so the shift points are closer to rev limit?

Or is it that someone new to an XR6T like me should be shifting a little earlier than performance auto?

Cheers,

Walker

Yes you are correct regarding holding on to the gears longer. I would do it exactly as you have stated. You can't blow it up from over reving it as it has a rev limiter. The redline will change with differing circumstances eg hot humid days it won't rev out as far.

Just find a nice straight deserted piece of private road and let it rip. It may be advisable to have an assistant check you speedo at each gear change as the road ahead comes up mighty quick when you're giving it a bit of stick and we don't want you to lose control of the beast now do we.

Hey..

Take it from me.......

Al Treats his car like his horses.. All soft and grassy and fat......

Never really got to stretch their legs and show there true potential......... (unless being late is your forte)

Punch every gear through to the limiter..... (yes it can handle it) but make sure your motor is hot when you do it...

The go do some thread mine on F6UTE and read his comprehensive guide to getting the best outta a straight six.....

Worth every cent an seeing as how he never donated, is cheap advice for no price.....

Let us know how you go.... and do like some other mofo's do... personal research

I'm always late to cruises and events this much is true, but you know what it gives me a good excuse to pedal it a bit. There's always a method to my madness.

Are you trying to say I don't know how to drive my car fast? What was your car doing over the 1/4 mile when it was stock, hey? When you can post consistant low 13's come back and see me. lol
