Well today I was at my local ford dealer because my sister was putting a deposit on her new car (2005 Focus).

Anyway my old daily died a couple weeks back and I've been looking at replacing it. They have have 2005 MK2 BA with 49,000kms on it, 6 speed manual, tow pack and premium sound package for $31,990. Hoping to get them down to 30 flat alteast.

Had a quick look around and overall the car looks very neat. Going back next weekend to pick up my sisters car and if its still there I might take it for a test drive. I've had a quick look round here but if anyone can tell me things to look for and any obnamatilies I should or shouldn't notice when driving it.

I've heard ppl complain about driveline shunt but I'm coming from a sh*tbox 1980's corona and a heavily modded 1980's supra so assessing compliance in the driveline isn't exactly my strong point.

30k is a fair price for that model. If you rocked up and handed over 30K they would take it no questions asked. Ima bot surprised that a dealer has it at cush a reasonable price. Its morelike a private seller than a dealers price, especially a Ford dealer. Very reasonable K's for an 05 T.

that's possibly a bit too much they are asking for it.

I've got a Sep 04 Mkii Turbo with 39000 Kms on it (sunroof, dual climate control, sports leather, rear parking sensors, tow bar etc) I got it over a year ago for less than the one you are looking at.

Other than that, watch out for brake shudder, creaky steering, driveline shunt. Otherwise all the normal car stuff, engine leaks, straight body (sagging front bar for BA's).... If those look ok I'd get it checked by a professional if you are not sure.

mate look around..auctions would be a good place to start.what state are you from?

NSW, thanks all for the help, as I say that's the list price, they dropped 3K off my sisters Focus so given the current climate with petrol prices I may have more room for persuasion. I'd rather buy from a dealer then auctions and theres perks with the dealer atm like fixed price servicing at $175 bucks until the 3 year used car warranty runs out in 2011 provided you service it every 6 months which I'd do anyway, so where I may spend alittle more now costs are reduced in the future.

I prefer cloth seats over leather (climate) and don't want a sunroof (reduced headroom when wearing a helmet for track work).

Offer them 28k, they are asking too much for it, trade in on that car would have been about 20k.

I passed up an immaculate one same as that but velocity (appears as it rolled off showroom floor, absolute stunner) for 29k in WA (WA is about 3-5k more expensive than eastern states)...

can I ask if the dealer is at campbelltown?

Yep, car still looks like it has orignal tyres too (very low tread front and rear) which should be a good base to bargain them down on.

Meh if all else fails atleast test driving it will give me an indication of what to look for in the future.

Had fun chasing a citrus rush XR6 turbo home today.

Well I went and test drove the car today, goes very nice, no brake shudder I could feel including a small emergency stop, no driveline shunt either. Have placed a holding deposit on the car pending finance, so watch this space lol.

Once a Expensive Daewoo boy who then fell in love with old toyotas and now a ford driver oh noes.

shop around a bit mate.. 30k for that seems a bit much, considering I priced up a BF MKI about 9 months ago for around 38-39k without trying too hard. It was a demo with around 4000km on it. That was in canberra too! There are plenty of bargains out there at the moment, just need to be patient.
