Had a big aquaplaining session on the M5 a few years back. All my fault driving on smooth tyres, lost all traction and went real wide into the break down lane, was about to kiss the wall and the tyres re-gripped just in time.

Do the swaybars on these cars make any diff in the wet?? Had a massive oversteer incident in the wet last year, brand new tyres and just wouldnt turn in. Might have been oil.

Experience so far is that the XR6T is benign, actually utterly docile in the wet.

It seems to be significantly more docile in the wet than an NA XR6. This may reflect on the the XR6T's LSD. It may also have something to do with the fact that the XR6T's torque delivery and throttle response is less (impulsive) than that of the NA's when off boost whilst being flatter (more even) when on boost.

Qualifications

XR6T is fitted with quality tyres at least factory grade or better.

Tyres have tread.

Tyres are true all purpose road tyres, not dry weather special road legal semi slicks.

Tyres are standard width and profile. Low compliance sidewalls on wide 20” rims are not so good in the wet.

TC is left on.

Throttle inputs are smooth-ish.

Standard Factory software

Acceleration, braking, turn in, sustained lateral G’s, cornering transients… all seem to be good.

Regards,

aa

Second day with the ute, light rain, thought that the illuminated TC light meant that TC WAS on... turns out it doesn't! :beerchug:

Left, right, left, right, tree miss... new undies, and a quick read of the manual.

My biggest wet weather stuffup....

Its about 2.00am, Henry Lawson Drive, had driven down from Scone, bloody tired, raining, just want to get home, 70' Falcon GT with 9in wide Mickey Thompsons on the back, too much power, hit a stream of water running across the road and away she went.....

Spins out and turns around, backwards over the median strip and down the opposite side of the road, drivers door is heading straight for a telegraph pole, no point trying to brake so I just floored the accelerator, breaks traction again and pirrouettes neatly around the pole( more ass than class, couldnt do it again for a million bucks), spins up over the gutter, through a picket fence and straight into a public kids playground, missed the slippery dip and parked it in reverse right between a set of swings ......

The damage bill.

Whole right side exhaust system,2 bent wheel rims,2 tyres, one snapped rear spring, front sway bar, right hand lower control arm and right hand rear tailight lens (on the swing)

Lessons learnt......

Dont gas it in the wet with 400 odd HP and Detroit locking LSD....

Dont drive when your too tired.....

Last time it rained ... yes, I can remember back that far ... I had a very disturbing moment. There was this "stuff" all over my screen and I couldn't see a thing out through the front windscreen. Seems the auto wipers weren't working (might have to get a VW). So anyhow, I just "drifted" all the way home, alternating my vision through the left and right side windows. Worked a treat!

Few scary moments in "Mandy", lol. Nankangs and no weight in the a$$ = a lot of fun in the dry. Add large volumes of wetness and hmm, you soon can be 6 feet higher in your seat in no time. However the stench can get to ya ;)

Was soo glad to back in a more controllable sedan (AZUL) but add 280rwkw to that sedan and the wet can be very scary if you abuse the power. These sedans do have a certain ability to straighten up well enough when having some fun :censored: but in the wet? There were a few times I feared I wasn't coming home in one piece and not trying to do anything stupid. You need to respect the power of these cars, especially if you have purchased one that is modified or are planning modifications. Even stock, you have the power to easily be in a sticky & uncontrollable situation in the wet.

true that, just 2 weeks ago, shifting into 4th at around 90kph on a dodgy looking bit of road, and I can feel the back starting to decide its own direction. new tyres go on this week though, so it should make it much better.
