Im coming up Mt. Ousley about 11.30pm last night, doing about 100ks round this righthand sweeper in the lane next to the dividing wall when this dude coming down the hill on the other side into what would be a tighter lefthand bend just over cooks it and belts the wall right beside me........man, talk about a wakeup call  .....didnt even see him coming....then, just out of the blue... "BANG"...sounded like a shotgun going off.....then the sparks, could still see em' in the mirror after he went past...

Talk about :pooh: myself...... :crybaby:

Good to see you are still with us.

Seen plenty of scrapes on concrete walls, but never seen anyone hit one. would have scared the Bejesious out of you.

Man you are lucky. Thank god for barriers right.

I had a similar incident about 2 months ago coming back from Geelong when a car coming the other way came through the trees and hit that wire mesh barrier thing in the middle of the road but it deflected and the car came right into the emergency lane before being pulled back into the trees again.

There was 4 of us in the car and we all sh*t ourselves.

Ummm 80 km/hr zone?

But seriously lucky escape, you have to be very careful going up Ousley as there is a bump in lane 2 which tends to throw you towards the wall at speed. Whenever I go up there I am allways careful of that section and stay out of that lane as soon as you hit it, it is all over.

Those wire barriers work very well but make a big mess of the car, still better than being hit by an on coming car.

Farkin oath they do - saw one getting used on the M1 a while ago. It ripped the living daylights out of the side of the car, but kept it heading in the right direction!

No doubt they are better for occupants though - no big impact. :spoton:

Concrete walls dont absorb any of the impact and the occupants suffer significant decellaration injuries as the car deformes to take the impact. The wires we all seeing more often, absorb the impact and little structural damage to the car occurs, though the outside skin is shredded. Definatley the cables keep the car pointed in the right direction and as they do less damage the braking and steering systems on the vehicle remain intact and can still be used by the driver to bring the car to a much safer stop.

Going down Mt. Ousley in 2000, a truck ran me up the bum in heavy fog and wrote me lil corolla off. All I got was a monster headache when me old brick mobile phone flung out and hit me in the head.

Yeah, I know where you mean Sly, but this happened further up the hill.....

Often let my car have a leg stretch up Ousley or Bulli Pass late at night...guess that's what boredom does to you :ta:
