Thought I'd start another what you do for a crust thread as I couldn't be bothered going through all 60 plus pages, except this one is dedicated to those of us that work either on a mine either residential or by FIFO. I'll start it off, I get the feeling there's a lot of us on here.

Other info

Shift: 8 on 6 off. Live onsite while at work for 7 nights. Then get to go home (Mackay is 150klm from Hail Creek so not FIFO but DIDO)and spend 7 nights there.

Its pretty interesting place considering we have a $1.1b expansion going on atm.. was the biggest single purchase of Cat 797b's trucks till olympic dam....

Work is about 72kms from home so I get to drive every day.. :(

On staff so I work monday to friday 7am-4pm generally knock off on fridays around 2pm though.

I am a plant operator 26 yrs experencie operating excavators and other plant trying to break into the iron ore mines at the moment but have had a few knock back.but it looks like I might have a start on the constuction of the fortsque metals rail line from mt newman to port headland.it is a tuff roster 4/1 12 hr days but good $.keeping fingers crossed I get the gig.

How about quoting some hourly rates you guys earn. My electrician mate says he is earning $75 an hour commissioning some plant for BHP out in whop whop in WA working 12 hour days two wks on one week off and also awaiting some 7% pay increase.

Not bad money.
