Why doesnt the government apply the same laws to drug lords - the cops know who they are.

If the Internet chat conversation he had with his cousin are true then the guy is definately connected to terrorism (but in his eyes his does not see it a being terrorism).That 60min interview could have been done alot better by the reporter also. More deeper questions could have been asked.

My question is this -

why does the government bend and twist our well-established legal traditions for this Haneef fella and yet is, in comparison, lenient on convicted drug lords, pedophiles and murderers.

Its a joke.

They (the AFP) handled Haneef pathetically, they should have simply spied on him 24/7 till he did something then pounce!

If the AFP had arrested him, tried him and then found him guilty, I would have no issue at all.

The fact that he was arrested and being accused of being a terrorist, with No Facts, with his information all over the media. They arrest him, keep him for 12 days for interrogation, then charge him and 2 days later drop the charges. The AFP fed the BS to the media, to try to make their case, when it has made them look like incompetent fools.

It was not the laywers that got him off, the Feds DROPPED THE CHARGES.

The Federal government cancelled his visa. He then left the country to visit his 4 week old daughter and wife and is then accused by that moron for immigration of being giulty because he left Australia so quickly...WTF ?

If I had been treated like him, I would have given the government a mouthful on TV, I think he was very restrained in his reply.

Tricky issues like this really annoy me.

Firstly the govt will never release 100% of all evidence, findings, testimony and facts to the public in case it impedes any related investigations that might be affected.

This alone makes any correct judgement by the public impossible, once you factor in the myriad of privacy laws/policies + leaks from the trial that turn into chinese whisper-like rumours then the whole thing becomes a shambles where public opinion can turn based on one sensationalist headline..

Personally I think a Proactive govt is better than a lackadaisical one, even if they do make errors in judgement
