I don't remember it being THAT bad when I lived there, but maybe that was because I was one of them ...

Rodderz Member 92 Member For: 22y 5m 23d Posted 12/06/03 11:15 AM Share Posted 12/06/03 11:15 AM You hear different comments from different people-I swear by optimax, I swear by synergy etc....I must say I've used mostly optimax, but lately started using mobil synergy 8000 as there were some reports about dodgy optimax. Cant notice any difference really, I think you would have to be driving the balls off your car or doing the same km's day in day out to really know..Having said that though I never go to the smaller petrol outlets or safeway/woolies, I know of a few people who have had to get their cars fixed for water and/or other substances other than petrol in the fuel! Posted 12/06/03 01:16 PM Share Posted 12/06/03 01:16 PM Agree Rodderz, put woolies 'premium' in the "Bird' and noticed a drop in performance. Me thinks their premium is normal ULP (could not get octane rating) from them so just use BP Premium. Car runs smooth, I can afford the extra, but still wait for the low end of the cycle if I can. :D LOL@ KenBoyle....love your sense of humour

Guest EvoToy Guests Posted 13/06/03 12:43 AM Share Posted 13/06/03 12:43 AM I find it amazing that you guys are so obsessed about economy... the choice in GAS should be down to the care you want to take engine...I have seen quite a few turbo'd (and non-turbo'd) motors blow a slug thru detonation, this is THE ONLY reason why I will only run premium fuel...After owning an Evo in NZ for a while I narrowed the fuel down to one brand (Gull) who were the only people to import their own gas, it seems that any other supplier caused the engine to "pink" (detonate) or "konck" in top gear under full throttle (150km/h +). I only use Premium fuel in the XR6T and if I remember correctly the manual specifies it for the T....It will be a warranty issue if you end up spitting a slug and you have been running regular UL....Detonation is an obvious trait to spot in a cooked engine. and you dont have to be driving a car hard for it to cause damage to the piston crown and or valves.... EvoToy, PULP is recommended, BUT regular unleaded is also 'supported'(I downloaded the manual as I don't have an XR6 - yet). So there should be no warranty issue... I can't say I notice any performance or economy differences between the fuels. Is there a difference between Mobil PULP and mobil synergy 8000? the pump at the local servo doesn't mention anything about Synergy, just says PULP. Trumpy What's happening? Unless it is branded as Synergy8000, it is normal 95 RON PULP. The Synergy stuff is 98RON.The Synergy brand is quite widespread in Sydney now, however it is very rare out of the metro area. I think you can actually check for it at Mobil's Website. The only 98 stuff I can get in Wollongong is Optimax, so I generally fill up in Sydney on my way home.
