I dunno,

I use Optimax in the Ducati and the Turbo. Then go down the scale depending on 1. kilomtres to empty and 2. kilometres to the next petrol station that sells 98 RON.

I haven't had any problems using Optimax in the Ducati or the Turbo.

Do I thrash either - well no.

Do I use it - well yes.

I havent tryed all fuels due to Fuelcard resrictions, however in a AUI I6 I could not pick the difference between Shell 91, 95 and 98 Octane Fuel's in terms of power and fuel economy. The only difference I noticed was sometimes the car would ping on 91, but it never would on 95 or 98.

I switched over to the dark side for my next car a VX V6, the company started using BP around this time. I generally used Ultimate in this as the car did seem to go better, however I could not pick a difference in fuel economy.

In my current car, a AUIII XR8 I only use ultimate so I cannot comment on how the car would go on another fuel.

In NSW/VIC/ACT/TAS your BP Ultimate is Shell Optimax. In WA and QLD Optimax is BP Ultimate. The refineries have a sharing arrangement.

I'll use either fuel, as there's no difference. Have never used anything but 98 RON fuel unless I've been forced too by lack of proper fuel.

have tried most of the 98RON fuels on the market and for me the mobil synergy 8000 is head and shoulders above the rest.

Case in point- I swing spanners on a mates 460ci XT ute, on the mobil it will run sweet through 7000rpm, optimax requires a dose of the Wynns race formula octane boost.

My T ute feels crisper on the mobil but the optimax still works just fine for haulinf my tools from job to job.

Economy??? If I was worried about economy I would driving some crappy little 4cyl ricer.

hi Guy well I have done some testing with different fuels (mobil 8000) and optimax, on a dyno. For starters we started with the optimax and cranked 189 rwkw on a dyno dynamics, we emptyed the tank and added some sinegy which put out 198 rwkw!! However we heard that there were a fair bit of crap optimax going around at the time aparently optimax has a shorter shelf life than normal fuel we think shell had a fair bit of excess sitting around for a while. However in conclusion optimax seems to be much of a much ness,

ALWAYS USE PREMIUM IN THE T!!!!!!

The fuel I use varies between Mobil Synergy 8000 (98 RON), BP Ultimate (98 RON) and Caltex Vortex (96 RON). Can't say that I've ever noticed any difference between the brands.

I had an AUII XR8 that required 98 ron. Anything less and it would ping under hard acceleration. In my experience I would have to say that the quality of fuel is inconsistent. I generally used Synergy or Optimax and found regularly (say 1 in 4 tanks) that you would still get varying degrees of pinging.

There were also certain petrol stations which seemed to consistently have poorer quality fuel so I learnt to avoid them.
