sounds like it may have been fixed :hmmm: but have you heard of any ute problems?

A mate had and AU1 XR8 ute which had bad vibrations from 100 km on ford replaced wheels tyres and diff, drive shaft, the only time it was not there was with 16inch steel wheels on. He sold the ute and got a BA pursiut ute guess what the same vibration is in this one not happy at all.

There is a problem with the new type of rubber compound they use to make tyres out of these days. I find that if the car sits overnight but more so over the weekend in the same spot the tyres have flat spots on them that go away when warmed up! This is a known problem but there is nothing Ford our you can do about it! Tyre company needs to work it out!

The factory was having trouble with balancing wheels at one stage early in the BA production but seem to have gotten on top of it now! But if your having vibration problems its the first place to start. Get the wheels balanced!

One thing you learn as a mechanic is KISS! Keep It Simple Stupid. Its very easy to go looking for a big problem and not seeing the little things that have caused it! Look at the tyres before the driveline!

Hope that helps!

I booked my car in after 2 weeks of getting it because I had a shunt through the gearshift, Vibrating through the steering wheel at 70-120 and I had no floor pegs to hold my mats in place. After I got it back from the dealer, I still had the shunt through the gearshift, the steering wheel still shacked all over the road and there was still no pegs on my floor mats. They did put 20grams of weight on the wheels as they were not balanced. And they also manage to put an extra 26kmh on the clock for me. So I took my car to Pedders as they did my suspension for me and the first thing they checked was tyre runout. And sure enough all the tyres are oval. I have to take the car back to the dealer next Tuesday and see what they say. When I was on the phone to them they insisted that the wheels are still not balanced. Even though they did it 2 weeks ago. The dealer asked who I believed, them or Pedders. I think Pedders. I now also need to get the disks machined.

Hi someday,

I'm thinking that your problem will be fixed soon enough, Ford will need your beast while they re-balance everything. I had my alignment redone & my tyres rebalanced outside of Ford & wore the cost so as to have an independant opinion. Has made a huge difference on the highway.

I had my diff replaced 2 weeks ago (old one whined) and with replacement came a nasty vibration from 70klm upwards (it was perfect before the change). The dealer told me that in order to fix they had to book in a driveline balancing machine (apparantly does the whole driveline and there are only 2 or 3 of these machines owned by Ford in OZ) and that was done late last week. The upshot is that the vibration is nearly gone, but the dealer says that there is still an unsatisfactory vibration at the pinion and another new diff has been ordered. My belief is that your vibration is in the driveline and you should have the dealer check it out.

When I took my car into the dealers and the service manager came for a drive with me and I showed him the shunt through the gearshift and he said it was not right. But I got the usual comment. "It is within specification". Is there anything I can do? Does anyone know if a different clutch has been put into the xr6 Turbo? I had one of the first xr6 Tubos “Oct Build” and I just picked up my new one and the clutch feels a lot lighter. In my opinion the clutch does not feel as strong and gets hot really quick and slips. Can anyone confirm this?

Time to get tough.

If you are a member of any auto club NRMA, VACC, RACQ etc, ring and get a quote for a full mechanical inspection.

Then visit (in person) your salesperson. Tell them of your dissatisfaction in a calm manner and tell them that if you do not get any satisfaction you will have the vehicle inspected bu an independant authority with the intention of billing them for the inspection as well as any repairs that are found.

You will get the job done.

If not, let me know. happy to be an advocate for you.

Thanks for your help, but I am not with a club. :( Am I being too fussy? Should I just put up with the shunt in the gearshift? Is his normal? I have had 3 different people drive my car and they have all noticed the shunt, before I mentioned it to them. Are the tyres under warranty does anyone know or do I have to go to Dunlop and get them replaced?
