I'm currently driving a wrx and looking to move to my next model, and after test driving various vehicles including Rx8, R34, and a Silvia S15 I drove a XR6 turbo. Now I drove the auto which is great but I need the manual and honestly it felt great like a endless acceleration. It was like driving a big 6 cylinder. So I walked away a little disappointed and thought maybe the manual was better...boost forward some months and I got into a Typhoon. I expected similar but was blown away, it was menacing and when boost came on so early it pushed me back into the seat and had my mate clenching the seat it didn't help taking a test drive through rain also. Thus I'm back to fantasizing about a Typhoon or Edited Xr6 turbo, 2 questions for you guys..how does the pull on your xr6/phoon compare to the pull of a GTR/Supra? (as in an older review of the Typhoon in Speed magazine found it to be a "Supra on Fast Foward" which I believed after the drive)And finally who was on the Ring Rd this morning 8:15ish in a Blue Xr6 Turbo with XR8 Bonnet, gauges, spoiler removed and lip spoiler attached (dick johnson?) and nicely lowered on mags.. as we got off and had a little play in Altona until the straight away came up and shot passed me and I saw that it was indeed a Turbo just wanted to say different & slick xr6...Was it you? Thanks dudes sorry if you needed to ripp out the Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/36970-was-it-you/ Share on other sites

Not sure how that compares to a GTR/Supra Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/36970-was-it-you/#findComment-558713 Share on other sites

The GTR's were pretty nice and good to have a 4WD (especially in the wet) but I still feel that the f6 throws you back more, comes on boost strong and early and from what I have read on the forum it doesn't take much to make these cars boggie Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/36970-was-it-you/#findComment-558741 Share on other sites
ZAP No boost, no bottle, just my foot on the throttle! Lifetime Members 7,935 Member For: 21y 3m 18d Gender: Male Location: Sydney Posted 26/07/07 10:21 PM Share Posted 26/07/07 10:21 PM Having driven many jap turbos, I found the main difference with the Ford turbos is TORQUE.The turbo ricers feel quick, as they have nothing under 3,000rpm, then the boost kicks in and all hell breaks loose. This makes them feel quicker aas they are lagging heaps and then wham. The Ford Turbos have heaps of low down power, so the boost is not so noticable, it is more like a steady increase in power. It is only when you are booting one and watch the speedo, so you realise how quick they are.My 100% stock F6 has 241rwkw and ran many back to back 13.2's in full street trim. They are no slouches and can be made to go very quick, very cheaply.Throw $2,000 at an F6 and get 300rwkw or 280rwkw in a T, that is cheap power. Now is a good time to buy one as dealers are busting to move stock. S15, R33 GTST, the power that these cars put out far exceeds both of them. There is nothing that comes close to a 4 litre DOHC with a 650 hp snail Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/36970-was-it-you/#findComment-558763 Share on other sites

According to Motor, the F6 only has 230rwkW, and only does a 13.6 Back on topic, it's horses for courses. The Ts and F6s are great crusing brutes than can comfortably seat 5, and that have pleanty of easily attainable power left in them. The Jap cars are more track focussed, and are generally in a higher state of tune, therefore more expensive to extract more power from.I think that once the V6 comes into play, the Ts low down torque advantage will dissapear. I think you might want to look at the specs of the new Duratec V6... Full torque is achieved upwards of 4,400rpm. As we all know the current I6 producers full torque at around 2,800 rpm.So no, the low down torque advantage won't dissapear, quite the opposite.
