I wonder if people actually think to change the socks on their standard or Walbro 340/341 fuel pumps???? I thnk that this filter is normally forgotten or overlooked...

I recently purchased a spare Walbro pump and 3 extra socks for this reason... The primary filter (socks on the pumps) must also be changed as they are the first point of contact with contaimnants. The inline filter is the secondary filter.... If the primary filter is not replaced the fuel flow will suffer..

I changed my inline filter when the car had 60K on the clock. I was dismayed when I emptied the filter into a container. Judging by the amount of Black Grit ( Due to where I lived, I assumed is coal dust) I was amazed that it even flowed any fuel.... Due to this I decided to remove the fuel pump (Walbro 341) and check it's sock also. It was also heaviy clogged therefore greatly decreasing fuel flow...

I purchased my spare socks for $10 Each from the last group buy. I think that it is a small price to pay for peace of mind...

Think he means the plastic mesh filter that fits on the bottom of the fuel pump that's inside the fuel tank.

I dont have one on mine as the one that cam with it wouldn't fit and the original was trashed big time. Will let you know when the pump sh*t itself but has been going for over 3 years now and isn't noisey YET!

Changed the inline filter recently and was expecting more crap in it but it was ok.

I replaced the filter on mine today. I just got the Repco branded RFF 62. It definitely made a positive difference to the mid-high revs. Although I was expecting an improvement because a few years ago I used to get into the bad habit of running the petrol right down. I mean RIGHT down to DTE reading 0 as I pulled into the servo :s God only knows what kind of sludge was caught in the filter..

Changed mine at 53k this weekend...

Man what a pain-in-the-ass job that was... What should have taken 15mins, took 3 hours....

Good quality spanners would not crack the bolts... sprayed WD40 everywhere, still wouldn't...Eventually I got the front one undone without rounding the bolt.... tried the rear one and gave up when it started to round... I followed the line back to the tank, disconnected it there, drilled out the rivet holding the line holder and pulled line out with the filter t to work on it... I didnt have a bench vice so I decided to go buy one, went to take my wife's car, noticed I had left the keys in the falcon ignition set to "on"... battery was now too dead to start the car.... it was getting old anyways... eventually got a new 600cca battery (much much better than the crap stock 450 units) and a bench vice... Got home, finnaly got the filter free, hook everything back up and checked for leaks...

3 hours later, $200, rounded and destryoed bolts, fuel in my eyes, and one new benchvice the job was done.......

Looking forward to the next one....

Then had a chat to my mate who works at a ford dealership... reckons the only way they get them off is with pipe spanners... and they only do them at 90,000kms. Car is now ALOT stronger since. oh, and 600CCA battery is 100000x times better than 450 for these cars.

Man that sounds like a ordeal and a half. I'd prefer brake fluid in my mouth than fuel in my eyes!

Such a small and cheap part but so hard to change. Not looking forward to round 2 with mine but it's due for it...

Yep its a cnt of a job when they wont undo! Mine are threaded so I bought a alloy filter this time and threaded it on so removing it in 20k will be fun. I'll replace the front section as its only short and try a die set to see if it can be fixed?

I actually bought a set of super wrenches yesterday from the Townsville Home and Camping show. $80 for the 4 of them in diff sizes and although they look cheaply made they will pay for themselves in the next cnt of an ordeal...
