Try a car brokerage house. A mate of mine bought a new Forrester XT turbo through one of these places after weeks of going to dealers personally. He ended up saving about 3 grand off the lowest quoted price & had the car delivered to his door. :tease:

I heard an advert for a brokerage mob on the weekend (sorry, didn't get their name though).

Basically, they buy 300 cars per month, so they have a lot more buying power, plus they can punt dealers against each other to get the pricing even lower. I definatly sounds like a good option, you don't have to deal with a brain dead car salesman, and their only interest in getting your sale, no brand loyalty or dealership bonuses on the line.

Next time I upgrade, I'll certainly be looking at that avenue.

thanks for all the feed back guys. I will look into a car brokerage house today. Im expecting a few quotes back from other dealers today and have alittle bit more ringing around to do and then I will give Better deals ago with a the lowest quote as my starting point. I am probably trying to buy a car at the wrong time of year. I think I would be better off waiting for the end of year sales.

Actually the end of any month can be a good time to buy, depending on the sales for that month. You have to think that July would be a slow month after all of the end of financial years sales, so this Saturday ( last Sat of the month) could be a good time buy.

I would suggest completely the opposite, do the work yourself and avoid "car brokers". Many of them are just a proxy for the car dealerships.. they have deals with a few dealers and receive commission for the sales, just as a salesman would, plus you pay their fee as well. This is considered unethical in most industries (accepting commission, and charging the client a fee). It also means you are far from likely to get the best deal.

See what they can do on an XR6T/F6.. then go get some prices yourself.. I guarantee the prices you get will be lower.

The reverse auction one is also the same sh*t different smell.

The brokers are there to look after their main client (the dealers), not you.

Hi guys,

I work for a car brokerage company.

I am not a car dealer. I have never worked in the motor industry previously.

I can understand a lot of peoples apprehension to car brokers. I agree that there a lot of cowboys out there stinging people left right and centre. I have seen some competitors invoices for $5,500 for one sale. Many make more than the dealers do, because they are ex car dealers themselves and know the tricks of the trade.

My advice to anyone using them would be to ask what fees they take from dealers. If they say they dont, they are lying and tell them where to go. If they do tell you, ask the dealer to show you that invoice. After a order has been confirmed an invoice is usually sent to the dealer who sold the car and they sit it with the paperwork.

And the guy who said he can get better pricing, in some cases people can do this. Anyone can shop someone elses price. I have seen cars sold at a loss even, but not always. The manufacturers spend truck loads of money training their staff to retain as much profit in the deals as possible. that's why many brokers deal with the fleet department who push numbers and will happily discount cars for sales, for them its easy. Just do up a quote and wait for the order, no test drive, no follow ups.

As consumers we are getting stung all the time these days, not just with cars, remember to be smart and dont buy on emotion.

After waiting 4 weeks for the salesman to email me a quote I got sick of waiting and drove the 200kms to the dealership today to ask WTF. Two hours later he handed me a hand written quote that read $72000 OTR. I folded the quote up, handed it back to him and told him to stick it!. "wait fifteen minutes, I will talk to the boss and see what I can do for you", he said as he stumbled off trying not to make eye contact. A good part of an hour later he handed me a new hand written quote that read $68262.30 OTR. I wont say what I said!

Am I wrong in thinking that this is well over what most dealerships would sell a brand new Typhoon for, or did I just have a reality check! I will be ringing around for a few more quotes on Monday.

The question I would like to ask (and I know its been asked in the last couple of months) is, HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR YOUR TYPHOON INCLUDING ON ROAD COST? This question is directed more so towards Queensland members.

The quote is as follows:

BF MK II TYPHOON AUTO $61810

SUNROOF $3000.00

LEATHER TRIM $1243.75

Roading costs:

GOVERMENT STAMP DUTY $1332.00

REGISTRATION $512.30

C.T.P. INSURANCE $272.00

PRE-DELIVERY & FREIGHT $2495.00

Purchase Price: $71986.30

Less Trade: $3724.00

TOTAL COST $68262.30

Thanks Judd
