BEWARE!!

Canberra Ave and Hindmarsh Drive intersection has been fitted with Red light and Speed "loop" detectors, these are a new type of red light and speed camera, they detect how much time it has taken your car to travel from point A (first sensor) to point B (second sensor) instead of using radar, therefore they are extremely accurate.

They are implanted under the road surface and are completely undetectable, they are also only 300 mm in front of the white stop line at these lights, so if you over shoot the line even by less than half a car length you will be charged, even though you didn't proceed through the lights.

These are also installed at the north bound intersection of Canberra Ave and Captain Cook Cres in Manuka.

These will apparently replace all existing speed and red light camera's in the ACT within the next few years...

Also they are in the process of installing FIXED SPEED CAMERAS on the north side of Cotter Road overpass for traffic travelling in both directions on Tuggeranong Parkway.

Not sure how accurate the info in the email is, no mention of it on the official ACT Govt website and I doubt if they could bring in such a measure unannounced.

Gaawd there's always one in every crowd!

I have better things to do with my time than run scare campaigns or post rubbish e-mails.

The post states that this system has been put in place and not necessarily commissioned at this stage.

If you believe you know best please feel free to ignore the friendly advance warning.

Jeez mate, take a pill! :bangcomputer:

Sorry to mythbust your "news" - I take it that this is from a reliable traceable government source and not just a chain email that has been circulating?

Does it strike you as odd that somebody (presumably the Govt) takes the time to compose a detailed email and circulate it but fail to put any of these details on the official Speed Camera information website?

Happy to be proved wrong!

Thanks Dingah,

The Cotter Road/Parkway was errected today so can only guess that it will be operational sooner than later. The location is not surprising, after the overpass so it can't be seen when heading north on the down hill side of the parkway!

Yup saw it /them today when heading north (just in time)...it certainly precipitated some speed compliance on the Parkway this morning.

Closer inspection than normal of the post-roadwork condition of the Fyshwick lights indiactes that to be either operational or darn close to it too.

I wish there was a way of shoveling aside those who decide to 'park' at 75kph in the 'overtaking' lane on Adelaide Avenue, busilly overtaking fresh air......the majority seem to sporting NSW plates - got to be in the correct lane to turn right albeit in 25kms time!!

I haven't noticed the "flash" from the camera at the fyshwick lights.. usually it'll flash at every red light (unless these are different). But so far, I haven't noticed any flashes, but who knows..
