Old School Car

As the title states my old man picked up an old Expensive Daewoo HD Sedan.Dark side I know.. All good though he owns two fords as his daily drivers so crisis over.

He bought it of a bloke up sydney way who had it given to him off the original owner. The car still has the old log books the news paper write up and all sorts of other crap. It was last registered in 1992 according to the label on the car

Now this particular car isnt just a basic HD. Its a HD X2. It came out with a 179 red motor and comes with twin carbys. Its bronze in colour with a white roof. Its got a funny scoop under the front bar as well as a scoop directing air to the brakes it also has a smal extra fuel tank mounted in the boot.

Now for the questions..... Who knows more info bout these cars.

Were they raced at bathurst

Searched the net and not much info there

Yes they did race at Bathurst 1965 and 1966 - but were no competition for the Cortinas and Minis.

In their day they were a pretty poor example of a car and were slammed by the press for their pedestrian slicing front fenders.

Nowadays any old car is collectable I guess but in all honesty one of these would be about the last car on my list to buy.

This model almost saw the end of GMH dominance of the local big car market. It lost a lot of sales to Ford. If the HR (replaced the HD in 1967) hadn't come out when it did Ford was poised ready to pounce with the XR range of Falcon which was at the time the most superior car available. Luckily for GMH the HR was also a very good vehicle - probably the best car Expensive Daewoo ever built until the Late model camira VT series II came along.

Unfortunately I'm old enough to remember the x2's.

They were GMH's answer to the GT and GT500 Ford Cortinas.

I recall twin downdraught strombergs and a better exhaust manifold but still I think drum brakes (power assisted)? The scoops and extra fuel tank seems like an add-on. Mike Savva and Herb Taylor ran one of these at Bathurst but they were a hopeless car compared to a Cooper S or a Studebaker Lark or Cortina GT500 let alone an XR GT. Best left in a motoring museum or under a car cover in your dads shed.

The X2's were not common, so there is a rarity value but not a lot else.

One thing I do know is they are "Bad Rust Buckets". I should know I spent 2 months at work cutting rust out, And every second hand panel the owner bought in for replacement was just as bad.

Lots of Bog was the solution.

End of the day a HD or HR will never be a collectable car the max you'd get would be $5,000, If it was a Monaro or Torana then you have money. The price of Aussie Muscle cars id through the roof at the moment.
