Hi Everyone

I just wanted to warn everyone that our friendly government has started converting speed cameras so they take photos both directions (for our convenience).

All the cameras (the ones I drive past) in western & central Sydney were only taking photos of the back of the car.

Lately they have started removing cameras and few days later they would reinstall them, If you have noticed a camera being removed and installed again be sure that it takes photos of the entire road and not just one direction.

Found this out on Friday night, on Elizabeth drive traveling from Liverpool towards Bonnyrigg. Me and a friend Both traveling at around 80, I was close behind and saw the first set of flashes but I was too close and too surprised to react so it got me too. Drove past it many many times before and it was always friendly, until Friday.

This (photographing the front of a car) use to be against the law, some sort of Privacy stuff but I guess they've changed it, of have they? I might go to the court and see what mister judge thinks, It's only a $30 or so fee, it should be fun. What do you think?

I got to go to the RTA to ask for the photo to see my stunned face in the photo.

Hope this saves you few bucks and most importantly few points.

Cheers

Dusko

the thing that sh8ts me is the road they did it on is stuffed surely they could prevent more accidents by improving the road surface

but they will still try an tell use cameras are there to improve road safety

what a crock

They are, they were always signed in both directions but were taking photos in only one direction (back of the car). But now, they take creative images of your face.

I would not bet on the fact that they can all take frontal pictures.

Generally the SC needs to be on the same side of the road aas your direction of travel. There is one on Spit Hill that takes approaching pictures, but there is no way it could take rear pictures. There is also another one on Eastern Valley Way at middle cove that takes rear shots, but it has the sensors in the road for approaching cars as well, but I know it does not take frontal pictures.

Are you sure that it was not just a flash ?

Cars in the other lanes would also often obscure pictures across 4-6 lanes

In NSW we have fixed cameras that only took rear shots for many years. These cameras are very well signposted by 3 very large signs, so they are hard to miss.

It is being assumed they can now take frontal shots as well.

I know of 4 cameras that do take frontal pictures only in NSW.

The one on the way into Wolongong from Sydney has taken front on photos forever and was first installed this way many years ago.

The determing feature as to weather thay can take photos in both directions is the sensors in the roadway fairly close to where the camera is errected. No sensors and the camera just aint going to work.

The airport tunnel here in Sydney is a good example. South bound in all 4 lanes your screwed but Northbound no sensors and the additional fact that the camera cannot cover both sides of the roadway due to the amount of lanes and traffic that would obscure photos being taken.

NSW speed cameras have been this states governments biggest fraud and the system should be buried by evey camera activation being contested at court.

We just all got use to them and now put up with them.

There were flashes when my friend went past it and then a second later it flashed twice again when I went past it so the sensors were definitely working, I guess I'll see in few weeks if it's actually taking photos or not.
