Mod the Phoon or go M3 (mmmm). AWD screamers are fun when you're belting them but not as easy to live with day to day.

If you're just after change for change sake your Phoon with tune and injectors will feel like a very different car.

We have the F6, 06 STi and 00 STi, and as of last week an Evo 8 MR (jap spec import that goes better than the oz spec).

The Sti’s and Evo are much better to drive around town if you want to go around corners; Evo is surprisingly good and very easy to drive, far better steering… and Recaro seats really hug you well. My wife drives the stock 06 STi (but with sports STi suspension) and loves it. I like driving it, and it could easliy take more power.

F6 with stock suspension is plain ordinary and unrewarding to drive after you drive the others, but far more comfortable.

F6 obviously has major room advantage. 06 STi rear seat does NOT fold down.

If you are a big guy obviously the F6 will be far more suited.

It’s really hard to beat AWD; if an AWD Orion came out I’d buy one straight away.

You have to be even more careful getting out of a rex and into a modded F6; I.e out of something very stable to something where the back end kicks out suddenly.

BA F6’s have been dropping rapidly in price; low k models (manual) for around $40-42k, but I think that once they drop to around $35k they may hold there for a while, as they’ll be past the big 3 year depreciation hit.

An as new jap spec Evo 8 is around $42k.

The 06 STi, at 1500kg, is very solid; my 00 STi, at 1260kg is far from solid (feels more like a go-kart ... great fun with 250awkw).

As for noise, my cars are getting quieter; actually tuned length extractors on a rex completely removes the boxer note. My old STi had a 4” exhaust, external wastegate and screamer pipe …. Now that was loud!

Bogan special not worth commenting on.

I’d just keep the F6, do a few suspension changes and exhaust if you want, as you can also drive the rex; and drive whatever takes your fancy.

Sounds like you going backwards, form Phoon to STI. Though STI a great lil buzz box and heaps of fun to drive. I wish I could have a phoon for cruising and the STI to work each day.

I did just read in a motoring magazine that most ppl go from WRX to XR6T as a general progression but not the other way around. You wanna go from phoon to STI, complete opposite to this article. I think it was in relation to maturing and/or getting old was the point behind the article.

I'd love to get the misses a WRX or MPS in the near future.

that's exactly what I was thinking too, about wrx owners maturing into T's/phoons etc hahahhaha

I think I just liked drivin the WRX for a change, now that ive been back in my phoon I remember why I like it so much.. it just kills everything in gear hahahha..

plus like Big Al said, RWD for the win !!
