Guest FatBAt Guests Posted 05/07/07 06:12 AM Share Posted 05/07/07 06:12 AM That is not entirely correct. When I had a Edit with custom tune, I got between 2-4lt/100km better economy over the tank. While the car would use more fuel when booting it, overall it was noticably better with economy.Economy does not = slow in our cars.Economy = properly tunedZAP I didn't say economy = slow. My wife drives our car mostly and after a week or so when I drive it the average has climbed to high 16's. I give it a few small squirts and drive (a little) harder than she and it drops to high 15's low 16's. That defies logic but that is just the way it is. My car before edit never saw the other side of 15 l/100klms. 13's mostly. Now it's 15's-16's (260rw) This could just be attributed to the fact that the car has 80000k on the clock. Who knows. There is more to it than just a custom tune and Kw to determine fuel economy. What about climate, the type of oil you run, vehicle age, tyre (type, size and pressures), driving style and a million other variables that will change fuel economy. Where you live, traffic and enviroment. All impact on fuel economy. Custom tune might fix a few of these things but will it make an impactable difference to warrant Rapid spending $1000.What I would suggest 1st is to change driving style (which is sorta hard to do)and increase tyre pressures to "say" 40psi. They cost nothing to start with. As I said. Every car is different.

It's not until cruising speed is reached, that the car is at optimum efficiency.Go too slow and you car is under load and not at peak mechanical efficency, that is why we all get much better economy when on longer trips (more time spent at crusing speeds). My car is used mainly for to and from work (short 20k trips). That said, I'm pretty happy with my average consumption of the mid 13s, which is about 440 per tank (even with the odd squirt here and there). My average speed is about 43.When I do longer trips though (even to the airport and back) I drop to under 10.The fuel also helps a lot. I mainly run BP Ultimate, but if I can't get a 98 ron fuel, I've noticed that the economy gets knocked to hell.

Im not 100% what the difference. Im running 320rwkw and 4.11's in the diff so in pretty happy with the quality of the tune from Simon from Xtreme and the fuel consumption i get

City driving does kill it, but 400 per tank is more realistic and open road stuff 500k's easily. Even with flogging your car you should be doing much better.Whats your average litres per 100 fuel consumption thing saying??O.K. just read the entier topic. Custom tuning does help fuel economy. When I run around in my 8PSI tune I get more k's per tank than the standard Ford tune was ever getting me. About 50 k's actually and this includes plenty of floggings. And when I run the 10PSI tune it gives me the same economy as the factory tune, go figure. And make sure your running the right fuel, 95/98 RON, not 91 in these cars. If your always filling up at the same servo, consider changing for a while and see if this helps. when it comes to fuel dont compromise and go to the cheapest independent you can find, just play it safe and get ripped off like the rest of us at the major servo's.I.B.
