Hi guys.

My 1st post here, please be gentle

I have an October 03 XR6T which has just clocked over 48,000. Yeah I know, that's really

bugger all.

This is the first service where it's been out of warranty, and so it's time for me to pay, through

the nose it looks like. 2 items came up this time :

  • * The old favourite, brake shudder - on-car machining required but now at my cost
    * and one out of the blue - the radiator needs replacing - it's leaking through the seams

Now if I'd had a rock or something go through the radiator, I'd be pissed off, but this is not the

case. The service dude assured me it wasn't leaking through a hole, but through the seams.

They advised me to call ford customer relations, which I did and they said they would 'review the situation'. I got a call today and they told me in the interest of them being nice (or some such comment), they would cover 60% of the parts and labor required.

I have to say I was somewhat underwhelmed.

The vehicle has not done a huge number of miles, and it's been serviced by the book by the dealer who sold me the vehicle.

Are my expectations too high, should I just accept their good will jesture? How long should a radiator last?

Should I take it further?

Tonight I started to look back over the service sheets to see what work had been carried out under warranty. I am concerned - it's constant and now it's going to cost me...

3 years is 3 years mate. Km's isn't an issue.

On some things it can be pushed but I think 60% is a good deal.

It's a shame you've done buggar all km's. If you had of done more the brake shudder would of happened more times and you would of got the new rotors and the revised pads under warranty I'd guess.

I wouldn't do that.

There's a fair bit involved in doing a radiator on a T.

Mate,

Out of good will is there text book saying. Bought a BF Mk2 XR6T at 5000km's lots for a 1 straight month to a D%*Khead dealer who wouldn't have a clue cause the computer bugged up, Treated me like it was my fault finely got it back after the month.

No Loan car, No Cab charges & no car from the dealer becuase I ddi not buy it of him even though I bought a Brand new Patrol wagon of him the year before & made him lose 5 customers so far to a good dealer amazing what word of mouth can do in a small mining town.

I have to little kids to get around & I'm out of pocket !

At the end they sadi out of good will I get a free 15000km service, thanks Ford ! Makes me wonder it the third ford I have owened & maybe the last.

Love my car thought !

I think mine is leaking too but not sure where from there is a wetspot on the passengers side under the radiator anfd that strong warm coolant smell, but the funnything is the coolant in the coolant reservoir hasnt really droped. You can buy a radiator on ebay apparently 26mm thick direct replacement but its for a manual or an auto that has bypassed the radiator. Probably what I will end up doing. Mine is also a couple months out of warranty. But I dont really want ford touching it.

Whilst 60% sounds fair, with my experience of Ford service I'd be asking "60% of what?"

They'll only machine the discs and the brake shudder will soon return - you're better off with after market ones.

Maybe negotiate to see if they'll do 100% of the radiator (supply and fit) at their cost and you'll fix the brakes yourself????
