So I just drove my new XR6T ute home from the Gold Coast to Cairns....1800klms and 21hrs worth of driving.

Im going to do the oil/filter 2morrow and would like to know wat type of oil and weight is best to use. Its done 51,000 k's now.

Also what weight diff oil should I use as I was intending on changing that while I was at it. At some stage in the next few weeks id like to change the auto trans fluid as well.

Cheers.

Brad.

Im not sure what model you are, BA/BF, but if your BF with a ZF auto, no need to do the fluids.

And with you motor oil everyone is going to have there own opinons, just like with tyres, brakes, fuel and who to vote for at the next election. I'd keep it simple, with a well known brand name that is of course a full synthetic and how could you go wrong.

Any mods, might steer you into a direction as well.

Mate, if its a BF I say. Castrol Edge 0W40.

Do not be tempted by other oils, including Edge 10W60. It is better to have a lower viscosity oil when the engine is cold (ie 0W is better than 10W).

When hot, the 40 weight is fine.

In my BF XR6T I use the edge 0W40 and find that there is seemingly no cranking resistance on start up.

I had the oil chanked at 1,500kms, and now have 12,000kms odd, and have had no problems, and used no oil.

I suggest that to get most benefit from the Castrol, that you run a flushing oil through the engine first.

It may pay to warm the car with the low viscosity oils before loading up the engine.

Just remember that whilst a zero weight oil flows well at start up, there is a reason why the

viscosity is designed to go up at operating temperature.

I just used Penzoil 15-40 mineral based oil. that's what Ford Svc Centre recommends.

What about Castrol TWS Motorsport? its a 10w-60, and is the only approved oil for the m-series bmw's

(I can get it thru work)
