Hi all, just after a bit of advice as too when the 4 speed auto in a BA should be serviced and if there are any special requirements ie type of fluid to use.

My car has only done 18,000km and I am not sure when I should have the auto done.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Deano

Do not use anything other than the manufacturers recommended TQ95 and make sure you avoid Tansmax Z - the wear rates are v high with that fluid.

A trans oil cooler would be a good idea too.

I change fluid about every 12000km - it's not that expensive and gives you an opportunity to take a look inside each time you do it.

Your power is not extreme, so I would say every 25000k's you will be safe.

The oil will discolour as it breaks down, so if it comes out red and not smelling burnt, you are fine :roflmbo:

Trans oil cooler is definitely the way to go, as the trans can get very hot in summer.

Aren't these boxes meant to be sealed from the factory, ie you should only need to service them if they're not performing correctly. Mine has over 70k on the clock, I have 300 rwkw and the oil is still red and clean (never changed). Measures taken to look after the box include fitting it with a PWR "v8" trans cooler, and driving it responsibly ie no burn outs, I don't push it when it kicks down and it has never been over 200km/h (at the drag strip). Despite all the talk of it being a weak box, I have total confidence in it.

Taxis service their 4 speed autos every 50K which usually is a change of oil, filter and a check of the solenoids

Over 90% of taxi uses the 4 speed so they should know from experience how often to service it.
