Those With 260+rwkw What Tyres

Hi all,

I am running about 280rwkw on 19" 265 Nankang Tyres NS2's for the rears (Tyres that came with the wheel package).

An am finding tracktion to be an issue (esp now in this cold weather) in 1st, 2nd of the lights. 3rd Gear you can feel the tyres grip the road.

When I mean traction issues - Its not that the rears go up in smoke, its more the tyres just spin and dont grab the road surface and the tacho just wizzes by..

I know I can ease off the right foot and maybe use 3/4 throttle, but for quick little sprints up against some other tough cars - this just doesnt work. I want all the power getting to the ground.

So what Tyres does everyone reccommend without sending me broke and what $$ are we talking. (Just for rears obviously)

a mazda would get wheel spin if it had nankangs! There sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You shouldn't have a problem with the hankooks k104 tyres! cant remember how much but it was a pretty reasonable price for tyres! I think about the 300-400 per tyre!

I had a VR V6 como with nankang 18s and I could rip them up

get anything but them and u will make an improvement!

I run nittos 275/30/20 on the back of my ba on 20 x 10 rims, while wheel spin is not completely gone, you can drive a bit more spirited confidently. And that is nice.

PP2s @ $420 a corner. Good traction and handling especially in the wet.

I strongly recommend (after much research) that you take what is said in thse forusm with a grain of salt. Including my opinion which I will give you in any case. So many have had last memory of bald OEM tyres & WOW these new ones are great. Also tyre presures (go bu an accurate) gage, as I have found even in similar tyre sizes/design/construction, that psi has vastly differeing effects.

The other issue is (a) straight line 0-100 kmh or whatver, vs say cornering ability.

I feel you would be better served, getting copies of not only AUSTRALIAN magazine reviews, but also o/s especially USA tyre test reports - a lot better info.

If you want my opinion (and as you probably gathered from my prologue - opinions are like arseholes, evryone has one).

I have 2 advantages in thinking about what I ahve to say, as:

1) I sell high-end software to the Tyre & MEchncial Industry (mainly tyre from retreader-wholesaler-retailer indepnednets & multibranch Companies or large Franchises (including ALL the big names, they all use my software) - So, being an enthusiast I get to hear the truth, problems, things the public don't hear about

2) I lsiten to the forums, and have found some intelligent commentary, but also a lot of embarrasing crap) - So I look at lots of trade magazines and as I mentioned car test magazines worlwide.

Recently I upggrdaded my 17" x 7.5" standard /BA MKII rims to 18" x 8.5" front and 18" x 9.5" rear.

Tyres I selected, regardless of price where Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 235/40/18 front & 265/35/18 rear.

One word - AWESOME!

I have also used in 17" - Yokohama ADVAN Sport AVS103 but the straight line dry traction (despite a softer compund) is a world away.

I have also used in 17: - OEM Dunlop SP3000A - not bad, not high performamce!

If you aare looking for tyres (I can only handle maybe 1 inqyuire a day at the extreme) - I may be able to point you to the right dealer.

Federal 275/30-19 on rear, K104 245/35-19 front, traction is pretty good, except on wet roads, but then I do have 360 rwkw's, so I guess that's to be expected

sorry for going off topic for a sec but, how good are the std dunlops that you get?

I bought my car with only 400 k's on the clock, so the tyres were new, they are now 7000k's old and I never spin my wheels through the gears, I'm running 254rwkw too
