Im for restricted licences.

I remember all too well how silly I was when younger. You simply do not seem to worry all that much when punting it hard, fast in fast out flat out down the straights.

Now its slowish in a little squirt out cruise the straights.

I thinks it's always going to be this way when a powerful car with a young man at the wheels crashes. It's easy news to sell. I think any car crashing into a servo will always make news too though!

Just a quick funny though.....My friends younger sister just got her P plates here in VIC. She asked me to come and check a whiring noise in her 4cyl FWD. It was slow to accelerate and made a funny noise from complete stop, but only in the wet. Err luv that's the front wheels spinning!

I think a major problem for a lot of people is they are taught to be the best reverse parkers in the world, but are not taught about how to actually control and understand basic driving dynamics.

Always bad to see such a big accident though.

I've always felt incorporating emergency braking/swerving in to the drivers test to be critical.

The 2 sisters I've tought how to drive I've always had them learn how to hit the brakes hard.

One of my sisters would completely lock the wheels the other wouldn't hit the brakes hard enough.

I am all for restricted licenses for young blokes. They say than mens brains arn't fully developed till they are around 25y/o and that are we take higher risks than we would if we were say 40.

If drugs or alcohol was involved then the drivers ass should be kicked.

I dont think restricted licenses will make any positive difference. Infact if some idiot young or old is going to drive like like a maniac I would rather they did it in a performance car with big brakes and good suspention than in a under braked soft suspension family car.

I have noticed that guys that drive "girly, slow cars" (ie. lancers & excels) drive more dangerously than anybody I know with a "high performance" car!

In the last 24 hrs I have been overtaken on single lane roads in the dark while I was doing '@ least' the speed limit! so I dont think car/licence restrictions are the answer.. better training is! use speed camera revenue to bring in mandatory defencive driver training for new drivers.. then perhaps a refresher course once you hit 30-35? that would be money well spent!
