Guest gctaylor Guests Posted 15/06/03 01:36 AM Share Posted 15/06/03 01:36 AM :D I was stoked to see the results. There is no doubt the Turbo is liked by the boys at Motor Mag, but to come out number 1 in the company of such strong Aussie muscle car competition confirms my opinion that I have the best value Australian built performance car in my driveway. Oh yeah!Geoff

Both the XR6T and the XR8 are chalk and cheese. Both have their qualities as do their liabilities.I have just returned from two days of testing both cars at an unnamed driving facility. Some of you may guess where this is. Both the Turbo and XR8 are automatic (we don't use manuals for a number of reasons)I found the weight of the V8 a distinct advantage. At high speed the car is much more tied to the ground and the torque advantage pushes the car through the air a lot better. The Turbo comes into its own on road designs that allow for linear throttle application allowing for boost, however in real world terms both cars trade off weight against power, torque and lag. In a real world application there is not much between the V8 and the Turbo. Both cars need to be driven very smoothly, especially with the quick steering rack in the BA. For our purposes the V8 is the superior car due to the following reasons: Instant torque and power at any rev range, especially for booting out of slow corners or from standing starts, the strength of the engine, 'box, drivetrain and brakes; the high speed stability due to the weight (especially in wet weather) and the added bonus of the magnificent induction noise.I have no doubt that people who have a Turbo are happy with it and the "bolt on" mentality makes it easy for people to enhance the power of their car. There is a lot of urban myth about bolt on stuff so I could only suggest getting stuff from people who know what they are doing. The V8 will always put out more power and torque due to it's increased capacity. A good big one will always beat a good little one. However, the more power you put out of the engine is always going to be compromised by the ability of the drivetrain to cope with it. That and the EECV which will override a number of things to protect the drive train. Both the XR8 and the Turbo must be pretty good if this Forum has to come to a level where Ford fanatics have to argue about which is the best car in the range, rather than constructively appreciate that either of them have an advantage over Brand Crap.Sort of sounds like the Ford V8 Supercar Teams ! Spend more time punting each other off the track and arguing between each other than collectively making sure that Ford is the winner and not Brand Crap. After all, the Opposition don't WIN power, the Government LOSE power.
Guest Guests Posted 15/06/03 01:57 AM Share Posted 15/06/03 01:57 AM Would you call the T a muscle car? I reckon a "Muscle" car needs scoops, stripes, bells and whistles, I rather my T be known as the CULT car of the decade, which we all know it is.I saw this happen as a kid with the GTs.3k was megga bucks ,know way you would even think of buying one. This time round I got my bit of cult history. And I hope history dont repeat its self, Pufta pollies ban high perfofmance cars.
Guest gctaylor Guests Posted 15/06/03 02:14 AM Share Posted 15/06/03 02:14 AM Vik351 I know what you are saying about the pollies. (remember GTHO Phase 4?) It sounds like the development opportunities at Ford for the GT and the Turbo are endless. When my 3 years of ownership are up on my XR6T I wouldn't mind trading up to one of these! Posted 15/06/03 04:19 AM Share Posted 15/06/03 04:19 AM 'Pufta pollies'.....LOLWhat is scary is the other articles in the same mag (yes there are more stories than the ones about our gorgeous car) :D eg; 40 kph trial in Melbourne, geezus I'm having trouble driving at 50, and that is in 3rd Imagine driving at 40 in a GT, XR8 or ANY decent performing car for that matter. I believe all (normal) drivers in that state (Vic) should get together and let it be known to Bracks and his band of limp wristed, slack jawed, mincing, social nannies that their collective ars#s are on the line and will not win the next election unless they stop treating the motorist as some sort of 'cash cow'. Then the message will flow onto the other states. Even some of the 'boys in blue' have had a gutfull of upholding such stupid laws (pg 26, onya 'Gabi', transfer to WA please!!!!).Sorry to get off the subject a bit but the beauracrats need to be stopped or it will be the same story as the GT phase 4 all over again.Ouch!........just slipped off my soap box :D :D

Posted 15/06/03 11:17 AM Share Posted 15/06/03 11:17 AM Call me the worlds biggest synic but how long after he got nabbed did the speed limit get raised to 60kph, and is it a road he travels on frequently? He reckons the road toll is down over last year (not counting Easter I hope), judging by the number of Vic licence plates we see here in the West, they've all moved over here :D We have 4 main roads comming into the CBD of our city and one is 50 kph, no prizes for guessing where the speed traps are put, camera and laser?
