This is not specific to the phoon, but ALL BF's have independently variable VCT's and ALL BA model car have not (they vary exhaust and inlet side at the same time)

Interesting, heard about iVCT a long time ago when BF first came out and nothing since, memories can be dangerous :)

Any idea if there are actual hardware differences in the head or is it just enabled in the tune?

I guess u could.. but they would still void your warranty so you might as well get a custom tune :spoton:

HAHAHHA. So what is the Difference from a XR to F6? Just the look and tune?

what about BA typhoons do they have the stroger bottom end?

And would it be worth putting a phoon bottom end in a BA for power reliability?

E.g. running more boost?

Cheers

Michael.

I would say yes and no, go an after market bottom end if you are going to do it do it properly.

I had the decision to put on more boltons and still be limited by the conrods or get a bottom end installed and see what I get with my existing boltons plus fuel pump and actuator/wgate housing mods.

im looking at 400 or so rwkw safe now instead of 350 not so safe.

With regard to the BA the F6 has the independently variable VCT capability, but not the XR6T.

Nizpro put a BA F6 ecu into my BA XR6T, and then used the Edit software to independently vary the exhaust and inlet cams.

All worked well except the oil light stayed on permanently.

Brian, I'm pretty sure all ECU's for the turbocharged I6 engines are the same I.e. BA XR6T/Phoon the same BF XR6T/phoon the same, so not sure how Nizpro did it.

My understanding is that for the BF's the ECU is significantly more powerful, which is why it is able to do this with the many thousand of calculations required for the correct settings.

Maybe the BA ECU is able to perform a more basic version of the VCT adjustments.

Oh and the oil light stays on, as the F6 tune expects a pressure transducer signal (as used for the gauge as well) instead of the XR6T's pressure switch.

I had this issue when I converted my car to a BF F6 specification in conjubction with fitting the ZF transmission - $250 later for an F6 oil transducer :w00t2: .
