Hi Everyone, im a new member on here.

had my XR6T since late last year, BA 2002 auto. every so often my car decides to weird out on me... sounds like ive put on a 20inch muffler, I lose power and breaks. Usually I can fix this by putting the car in park and revving the crap out of it, seems to blow through some how.

Had my mechanic check it 3 times so far, and the jefferson ford guys. They have no idea, just wondering if anyone else has experience anything like it?

MAte your description of what happens is a bit vague.

Our cars have a limp home mode that will slow the RPM of the motor and generally not let it go above 60km/h. This is generally caused by a condition that makes the ECU think there is a problem.

Things like overheating, overboosting and poor servicing can bring this on. It usually shows the gear indicator on the dash flashing. You need to pullover and turn the car off and then restart it. Reving the crap out of it is not a good idea.

You should find a patter to when it experiences this problem. It might only be on cold nights under full throttle, then it will be overboost.

Please describe more in detail the events that lead up to the problem happening.

Sure no problem, didnt mean to be vague. So far its happened 4 times since ive had the car, once cruising western ring at 100km, car was warm, twice regular driving for about 30 mins, and this morning cold after 10 mins. I doubt a "cruise home" mode would make me loose breaking power either.

There are no additional lights or warning indicators showing anywhere, the car is not overheating or boosting. Re-starting the car does not change the problem, only revving the car up to 4 or 5k revs seems to do the trick

Ive had the cpu checked for error logs and tuning problems to no avail.

Thanks for your reply by the way, im currently at a loss for what do to and after almost rear ending the car in front this morning when it happened im a bit dubious about driving at all

You might want to look for a vacuum leak in the brake booster system.

Just a thought.

Thanks for your ideas so far, I was hoping to get a list of possibles to take to my mechanic next time as he cant seem to find anything wrong with it.

Our06t: The power loss is massive, I doubt I would be able to splutter my way to 40kph. Having the throttle body cleaned is a good idea, will try that.

xr6 typhoon: Actually bought it from a toyota dealership, and they stuffed me around so badly when I took it in the first time to have this problem checked I threw out the dealership warranty that came with the car. Have had it plugged in by a ford specialist and he couldnt find anything.

Iconic Bionic: No mods yet, have been thinking about it but not willing to waste money on a lemon\

any more ideas would be great
