Looking for your thoughts on this.

'03 BA with a 4 speed auto. It suffers from slow reverse selection, and has been getting a bit worse in forward gears (slow to select, slow to shift) over the past few months.

I can see two options:

1. Do what it takes to fix the auto box. Obviously largely dependent on actual condition, but I reckon say $2000 to fix up the box, then fit an trans cooler (say $700), and then...? Is there more money to spend on this route?

2. Go manual. I'd prefer this for actually driving the car. It would be more money but how much more? Sounds like the Mal Wood T56 is the ducks nuts (at say $8000 with a good clutch). Have posted in the Mal Wood forum to check the exact cost of this. (Oh, and presumably these $$$ would reduce a little selling the old box).

Are there other options? Over to you.

sell the BA and put the $8000 towards a BF with the 6speed already in it, new model, lower k's and all that to boot.....

would be my choice in your situation :crybaby:

Yeah... not a bad option... but it would still be an auto. But you do hear nice things about that ZF gearbox.

BA already has pipe, intercooler, 968s, SS CAI blah blah and is in dire need of an edit, whereas going the BF route that would all start again.

 How is it tuned now ??

If going the BF route just turn the BA back to stock and bolt on your bits to the BF doesn't cost that much to do :tease:

I would try the edit to increase your line pressure. Mine was a little slow to shift into reverse, though this was all rectified using the edit.
sounds like your trans filter is blocked mate, very cheap and easy fix to replace

I can`t believe the advice some people give on this forum the guy has a transmission problem and the advice is sell the car and get a BF.

Has anyone consided that if he sold his 2003 ba he might only get 25K if his luck that leaves him with having to scrape up another $20+ k if he can manage it.

when his tranny might cost him anywhere from $50 to$1500 (I`ve heard you can get changeover trannies for $1500) My advice would be go to a tranny shop get a quote and take it from there. at least the guys I`ve quoted tried to give some advice.

if you read the original post you will see one option under consideration was to spend $8000 on a manual conversion.....hence the fact I said to sell up and buy a BF with the gearbox he wants, $25000 + $8000 = $33000, should be enough to get into a 2nd hand 6 speed manual me thinks.....who said anything about buying new??

makes sense to me :crybaby:
