I was driving my car home from indoor cricket tonight when we came up to a set of traffic lights. I came to a stop and then took off as usuall. The car felt like it was stuck in top gear and it felt like the clutch was slipping. The D on the dash was flashing. I pulled over, turned the car completely off, restarted the engine and drove away. No more problems. Is this the start of another bigger problem?

Sounds like your car went into limp mode. Mine has done this once in in 4 years and as you said, shut it off, turn it back on and all is OK. That was a year ago. Mine was caused by a bad reading from the oxygen sensor. Dealer cleared the fault and that was it. Wouldn't worry unless it keeps happening and probably doesn't mean there is a trans problem.

Mine done it today for the first time ever, but when I turn it off and on again it goes back into limp mode. Could it be something major?

I actually have noticed that it does stop when I turn it off but it comes back on after a couple of minutes of driving and I have noticed that my heater doesnt blow hot air.

I had a spate of this and got a scan tool readout to determine that the S5 solenoid had gone to a dead short due loose wire inside - pan came off and five minutes later all was good.

Until you get the codes you are chasing at shadows.
