ok ill contact malwood and try to organise a group buy on an option 3 or 5 clutch. Please let me know who will be interested in this thread...

the group buy if malwood are happy to go ahead, will go something like this;

1.put your names down first if your genuinely interested. this is not a committment to buy.

2.once we have 10 people with names down, (hopefully this will happen within 4 weeks or so, so that gives you an indea of when you will need the money by.) ill start collecting money.

3.once the first 10 people have paid, the order will be placed and paid to malwood.

4. i will try to get malwood to send the clutch directly to you rather than me, to save on double postage etc.

Stay tuned, i will try to get a price from malwood ASAP.

Awsome clutch make sure you guys opt for the external bleed block and the 11 inch alloy flywheel option. The bleed block is esential otherwise you will have all sorts of trouble with bleeding the box correctly.

Mine is still going strong 15000 kms @ 355 rwkw and my ute is loaded for work

so far no reply from malwood... :( might have to call them instead...

im thinking we just get a price on the normal option 3 package, and then if anyone wants bells and whistles on top, they order seperately but hopefully still ship togeather. Otherwise, there will be too many wanting different things, different prices and it will be hard for mal to come up with a price if he is dealing with an unknown quantity of bells and whistles if you know what i mean?

stay tuned...

ok i spoke to mal today... its a difficult one this one. first of all, its difficult to publish a discounted group buy price on this as mal has to consider his relationships with his trade customers, so i cant give you an exact price at this stage. Mal said that the RRP of the option 3 is $1580 including new spigot bearing, lighter chrome moly flywheel 2900lb clamp and organic plate etc... and for those that want the short throw shifter, braided lines and remote bleed, alloy CSC etc its RRP is $2085.

Now during our conversation, mal said he would look after us if we get numbers up to 10, and would have a closer look at the price for a group buy, but gave no firm indication of how much discount we would get unfortunately... He did say that there is not much margin in them as every clutch has a certain $ amount of materials and hours labour to make them, which doesnt change no matter how many we order. 10 times more material and 10 times more labour in other words... so it doesnt sound like we are going to be able to get them a hell of alot cheaper... only a little cheaper...

Now i spoke with another clutch builder by the name of Jim Berry, you may have heard of him, you may not have. If you read over on the skylines australia forum, you will know him. But anyways, in some circles he is regarded as one of the best clutch builders anywhere for race, rally and street applications and i have bought a clutch for my brothers GTR from him before... a 5400lb clamp carbotic plate job. He was prepared straight off the bat to knock off 20% for a group buy of 10 for xr6t and he will build what ever clutch you want, organic, carbotic, twins, whatever. Now this guy has some differing opinions on what works best compared with mal wood, as many tuners differ from one another etc... he doesnt belive in lighter flywheels for turbo cars. And he wont reccommend organic plates for up to 400rwkw. he uses the factory flywheel, and 10.5inch system instead of malwoods 11inch with many reasons if you care to spend an hour on the phone with him... instead of an alloy CSC, he recommends replacing the fatory one everytime the clutch is out along with the gearbox seal etc.... but the long and short of it is, he will do a 10.5inch organic with 3200lb clamp for around $800 godd for 300-350rwkw, or a 10.5 inch carbotic plate with 4000+lbs clamp good for 450+rwkw for around $1000 and we keep our factory flywheel.

so im open to suggestions as to where we proceed from here... Edited by groper
