Hey guys,

Bit of interesting info...

At the State of Origin last week my mates XR6T got broken into at the Hombush P1 carpark. It was really bizarre as getting into the car we noticed nothing wrong. Start the car and start to drive away and he cant find his ipod in the console (Which I watched him put in there).

It was gone... nothing else in the car was missing, nothing was in plain sight either.

So we jump out of the car and can see the tiniest bit of damage under the plastic door handle surround about the size of a tiny knitting needle, on the drivers side.

Are our cars really that easy to get into?

I guess not as easy as the rumours flying around about the VE. Where if you jump on the roof hard enough apparently all the doors are meant to unlock, as if the car has rolled. I've heard this through people who know people etc etc so could be total bullsh*t...

Anyways I'm a bit worried...

Heard a urban legend style story about a TV presenter that was doing a piece on these two young car thieves that said they could break into anything... the presenter then showed them to a new model merc and said about how this car was the toughest etc, and these two kids said they could get into it in under 10 seconds, he said no and bet them they couldnt, they took off running and both fly kicked the front bumper and and ping all four doors unlocked as a safety mechanism in the event of a crash....

Not sure if its a load of crap, but pretty funny story.

Felix

The story about jumping on a commodore's roof to unlock the doors has been around since the VT came out. Might try it out next time I see a VT/VX/VY/VZ/VE in the carpark :roflmbo:

Will try it on my mate's ve this arvo, I'm sure he won't mind.

In response to the original question, yes like everything they are fairly easy to get into - getting them started (and keeping them running for more than a minute) is an entirely different story though.

was absolutely stunned watching the racv bloke get into the drivers door in about 30 seconds using tools that are all comercially available.

My mate had a BA XR6 a couple years ago and he locked the keys in the boot. About 10 minutes of moving hands up and down on the rear passenger window he had it open. He didn't have rear power windows though. Still, I thought being able to do that was pretty dodgy on Ford's behalf.
