Well it will be about 2 weeks before I find out for sure if I will need to trade to something with a little more ground clearance. If I were to pick one at the minute I would go for the terri the best value and most practical of everything I have looked at so far. The dodge looks awesome and has a fantastic engine and tranny but a crappy interior. The outback is extremely well built but the motor lacks torque down low and the auto is "stupid". I didn't even drive the captiva, no way I could live with it.

On the trade in prices I know change over is the only figure that matters but the best price I have on a terri is $8000 below the RRP and that's with 27 for the trade in so you could hardly say they have loaded the price of the trade against the new one.

I pay cash for all my cars, so I guess that helps.

Not really. Ford and possibly other car companies that have their own finance make more from that than they do the actual car they are selling.

Ford Dealers Suck. When I was looking at buying my Turbo, Knox Ford would only let me test drive one if I was going to buy it.

When the missus was 21yo and was looking at buying a brand new Subaru Liberty they gave us the keys and said bring it back before we close. As we jumped in the car and was leaving the guy came over and asked for one of our licences as he had forgot to get our info.

Customer service is a big thing when buying cars from dealers but some places just dont seem to care.

So JBomb3000, what have you decided to get???

not alll...strapp ford threw me the keys, and courtney and pattersons came with me, and we drove off for 45mins... told em both, not buying today, do the right thing by me(price and cust. service) and youll get my business...in the end, c&p came in better..

Paying cash - meaning, I go in and if I want the car I buy it. No "I need this for my trade to make it work" or "I have to sell my car first". I make it very clear - I am there to buy a car!

Never forget, made an offer on an F6 when I was looking at my T. He came back about an hour later and said "you are a few grand off, can you come up a little" Said "no, the offer is fair in the current market". He said "probably won't happen, but I'll come back to you". 4 days later he came back with "have you thought about it?", to which I replied "yes, and I bought an XR6T yesterday afternoon".

And yes, I was serious about the F6. I am a "value" type of guy, not a lowest possible price type of buyer. Meaning, if I was buying lunch and could a Peanut Butter sandwich for $4.00 or a Roast Beef sandwich with a drink for $7.00, then I'll spend the $7.00 because it is good value. I wanted a Falcon based Turbo - XR6T or F6, whatever offered me value (an F6 at the right price is value - at RRP it is not).

I did a similar thing, my offer on their demo F6 was knocked back as too low (they wanted pretty much new car price and I offered a fair 2nd hand price), so I purchased a T at another dealer. A few weeks later the dropped the F6 to within a grand of my offer and sold it about a week after that (no doubt foe less than my offer).

I've gotta admit, for some reason the majority of Ford dealers are much harder to deal with than most of the other brands. I was also offered better trade-in prices for my AUII ute at Subaru on a Forester XT, than Ford would give me for a T.

I ended up buying a Territory Ghia and selling the T privately. Put 29 on it and sold it within 3 days. I couldn't believe my luck, the first guy that looked at it wanted it but couldn't get organised in time and another guy looked at it last night then brought his wife back tonight and took it. So there is hope for all those out there trying to sell. Immaculate cars will sell and still for reasonable money.
