Cng For Xr6?

Anyone looked into running and XR6T or a territory T on CNG. I like bigger fast cars but care about the environment.

Petrol is getting more and more expensive and has a significant contribution to green house gasses. It breaks my heart to see the lack of foresight by the Government and people in General ( I guess that includes me). I would hate to see the solution be small aluminium hybrids. Another thing I dislike about petrol is more and more of it is coming from the Middle East and directly or indirectly filling the pockets of terrorist. Lets not forget where Bin Laden got his money. I would rather power my car from home grown natural gas.

LPG is not the answer really. It helps but its a petroleum by product and is not that much greener than petrol or diesel. CNG appears to be the most greenest fuel about, except for hydrogen and if filled with a compressor from the gas pipe at home will workout to less than 1/5 of the cost of petrol. If we got our act together we could run our ford turbos cheaper than a Pirus with a lesser or similar green house gas effect.

What I like about natural gas is that it has an octane rating of 130. You could have a high compression engine and still run lots of boost.

I would love to see a CNG kit for the ford turbos. Given the availability, I would say it would have to be dual fuel with petrol because about the only place you will find it is via a compressor at home. I would guess you would have to increase the compression to get the best from CNG, reduce boost (on petrol) and specify 100% octane fuel when running on petrol.

To get a falcon from gold coast to brisbane and back which is about 150 km's the tank would need to be to big and heavy to even fit in the boot.

CNG is not really any good for normal vechiles.

that's why I was suggesting the dual fuel approach, a lot of people dont travel more than 50 kms a day. When you get home you hook it up to the compressor. If you do you run on petrol. The CNG van I travelled in in LA had a decent range and the tank did not seem that big.

The only way to make the car worth while running on cng is to build the motor for that prepose and this means no running on petrol at all.
