I had an EL XR8, 2 AU XR8's and was always a hardcore V8 fan but when it came to buying a BF I couldnt go past the turbo. I was sucked in from the first turn of the key...

The only reason you would buy the XR8 is if you like the sound of it, if you are looking for performance and tweakin it in the future, you can't go past the XR6T, you just have to look how many quick XR6T versus how many quick XR8's, I can tell you there are alot more sixes, cheap to get to go reasonably well

I test drove stock xr6t v stock xr8. I was very underwhelmed in the stock 6. The stock 8 on the other hand I new with in a minute it was the cr for me. Each to there own, and sure the Turbo 6 is undoubtedly cheaper/easier to mod (hell why not get a skyeline then... lol) But if your willing to do a bit of work/money the 8 is a gem. I also think there is a lot of great new gear coming out fore BOSS. Very stealth superchargers etc. You could create a real weapon with a supercharger if your keen on hitting the track, plus its unique. And yeah they sound great. The best thing with the 8 is to do the full exhaust, he exhaust really freed/toughened it up. Im looking at getting CAI, under drives, and edit ASAP. Maybe down the track supercharge!

Your call, but theyre all fun!

It's funny how the ONLY thing that Boss owners can claim over the Turbo crowd is the sound. While the sound is great, you can hear the turbo blow by you as you are listning to the motor.

And for anyones information a Stock Turbo will hose a stock XR8, all day, every day.

If your still up here, then the XR8 may very well be the better choice, my T didn't like the heat and didn't like the long drives at +180kph (which I guess is irrelivant now...) But if I had to choose between the two again, Id get the T. As I didn't have to choose between the two, I got an EVO.....

Owned an XR6T

Owned a BA GT

Owned a WRX Sti

Owned an AU T1 TS50

Currently own an AU T3 TS50

Out of those l would take the T3 first and the XR8 second. There is no substitite for low down torque and driveability and l have come full circle on that and ended up back in V8's. The XR6 turbo has lag and sure it responds to mods but when talking stock cars it would not be my first pick. The Turbo Territory is actually less laggy and much more responsive but of course you are asking about a sedan not a 2000kg wagon.

So get your bum in one of these:

I have had all sorts of cars over the years and in the latest series of Falcon Ive had a Turbo, then a GT and now a GTP.

I did like my turbo and had never owned a V8 and thought it was time to give one a try.

I did drive an auto XR8 and I wasnt that impressed with it but I was really impressed when I test drove a GT.

I test drove a manual GT and bought one as it was a heap quicker than the XR8 auto but that car never had many ks on it so maybe it was that buy it felt slow.

I am not sure why the XR8 was so slow but the GT made me smiile quite a bit.

When I got my GT it wasnt as quick as the one I drove but as I started building ks it was getting quicker and I did add an exhaust to get the true V8 sound.

It is pointed out above that boss owners only talk about the sound of the car but that's not true.

With the Turbo there is a lot of power down low but with th V8 it starts to really come on at around 3000-3500 and then you really start travelling and yes the sound is pretty overwhelming for a start and I dont know why they fitted radios to the boss powered cars as I listen to my engine as it sounds better than most song on the radio.

My new GTP is nearly a year old and works been busy so Ive only driven 6000 kms in it but it too is starting to gain some power and come 10,000 kms things are different so if you test drive one drive one with a few kms on the clock. It was quite noticeable.

The V8 may not be the quickest car around and when I bought mine I knew that going in.

Both cars are very good and you would be happy with either.

When it came time to get the GTP I could have had an F6 or whatever else I wanted to order but stuck with the V8 as I have a lot of fun driving it and one day I might get an F6 but Im a V8 fan at the moment.

I also noticed that there was an article on this site that said the Americans were test driving GTs and they were getting 5.7 seconds for 0-100 so that is pretty good.

With the Turbo I do miss the push back in the seat on take off but I also enjoy the huge mid range gain with the V8.

Probably havent helped you much but you never know.

turbos are too high maintenance for me so my next ford will be a GT. but I wouldnt want an xr8 (not in BA,BF form anyway). I would go for a GT/GT-P anyday over an XR8. but I would rather have an xr6t over a typhoon.
