this is a good point

but if I wer to do it (after seeing chris's) I would try to replace the grill from the parcel shelf and with carpeted mdf and fix into place.

as I belive you would get a deeper sound but while saying this it is all theory at the moment first I would have to get my self the XR6T :D

it is nice to see that (other) people are thinking about changing the speaker in the car

Better late then never, I no some of you don't seem to like clarion speakers.

I like to listern to a CD with the volume set on 30 but with the standed speakers the sound was SH!t and the clarion speakers are as clear as anything.

Photo of the factory fit.

By the way it was a very easy job, just hope you have a 3/16 af socket in your tool box for the factory speaker bolts

I know I’m not a site sponsor but it may be of interest.

One of my companies produce sub adaptor rings for Falcons

The currant range what we do are as follows:-

EA - EL Adaptor rings to take most 10 inch subs in place of the 8 inch one and we also do a 12 inch one but due to the contour of the rear underside of the parcel shelf it is not as good as the 10 inch one. (Only held on with 3 bolts not 4)

AU Adaptor rings to take most 10 inch subs in place of the 8 inch one.

No cutting or drilling required of material.

These adaptors a CNC machined out of 10mm MDF.

When I get a chance or my XR6T turns up I will design a set as I am not sure of the rear parcel shelf set up.

How different would it be from AU? How much are the adaptors and is the shelf strong enough to take it and not vibrate?

Dave XT - when are you in Perth with your car? I'd like to have a listen. (Pannawonica isn't that far away!) Are they heaps better?

Yes to me you can,t hear much difference untill your above 20 on the volume switch, after that there an't any louder but the sound is much clearer and sharper.

Its like listerning to a cassette then switch to a CD.

Yer not in Perth till Nov, coming down to get a good sports exhaust system.

But after reading about Mr subaru warranty claim on a stuffed engine I might leave the exhaust alone.

I put a 8inch clarion sub in the back of my EF so I didn't have to cut the whole any bigger and I wish I hadn't wasted my time. Firstly the sub size itself just isn't big enough to give a decent thump, sure it's louder but if it's the doof doof you are after I wouldn't do it. Secondly it shakes the living hell out of the shelf and the sound from the vibration is terrible, maybe the shelf in the BA is stronger I don't know, but that's my two cents wrth anyway.

An 8 inch sub is OK but a 10 inch is a lot better.

What you’d might want to try is placing 130uf electro cap across your main speakers to try and cut out the sub bass coming through.

As a rule of thumb 20% of power goes to the highs/tweeters, 30% to the mid/full range speakers and 50% to the bass/sub.

By putting the cap across your main speakers you are filtering out the sub bass portion of the sound and let the sub do the work.

Most cheap car stereos with built in amps (this probably includes the Falcon) distort when cranked up to far, the main cause of this not always the speaker but the inbuilt amp itself, so by capping the speakers the amp does not have to work so hard!

When I get my Falcon or one to borrow we will have a look at what can be made for then.
