Just fitted two pairs of Clarion SRC5724 speakers for $300 bucks.

The sound is much sweeter above 30 on the volume with no distortion.

A lot better than the standed speaker and they where alright for a factory fit

With the sub, I'm pretty sure it's 8" and there's not a lot of those available aftermarket. I have a Pioneer 10" from my previous car that I plan to fit (when I get some spare money). I talked to a couple of car sound shops about this and because I don't want to go enlarging the hole (illegal anyway I think) they recommended cutting out a ring in MDF and screwing the sub in from below. It will be a bit tricky because the parcel shelf has a ribbed lip around the existing hole, presumably for extra strength so the MDF will need to be routed to allow for this.

Illegal to make a hole?

Anyway a "Free-Air" sub isnt going to be the best option...I know its Doof Doff Ricey but if your going to Upgrade the Sub Box them up.

Im sure someone here can do the Arthimetic to design a tuned enclosure to box a nice sub properly...Jaycar have some nice 8" im pretty sure and most of their Theile-Small stuff too.

AFAIK it's illegal to cut holes in your rear parcel shelf, something to do with it being part of the structral integrety of the car. Not sure if the same rule applies for enlarging existing holes. I imagine it would, especially in the XR as they have the ribbed edge around the hole. I think this rule might only apply to latish model cars. As I said, I'm not 100% sure about this rule, I asked a couple of car sound shops and they didn't seem to know either (I reckon they should as they do this all day, every day).

I realise a boxed sub will probably sound better but I'm not after a "full sik bro" "doof doof" system to win sound off comps or go cruising with ricers. The 10" free air sub I had in my old EB used to sound great. Plus I use my boot for luggage and don't wanted it cluttered up with speaker boxes.
