Im 25 so I dont have to worry anyways. Sounds like a good idea though, too many young inexperienced drivers in high powered cars getting themselves into trouble.Im sure things will change here soon though. Can drive an XR6 with 190Kw, but cant drive a turbocharged volvo with some models having far less than 190Kw, just cause its turbocharged. I think we all know which is going to be the safer car of the two. Edited 13/06/07 11:24 AM by Iconic Bionic

These penalties will apply to both the current power to weight restrictions and the new high powered vehicles restrictions."Nasty. I'm 21 in July but unfortunately didn't get my P's till October. Could be an expensive couple of months.

Melbourne Posted 17/06/07 02:21 AM Share Posted 17/06/07 02:21 AM This is how it is to my understanding, so...If you have your P's BEFORE July 1st this yr the current power to weight rules apply, 125KW per tone, the BA T's are about 140KW per tone, so they are clearly over. But for poeple that get there P's AFTER July first the new rules apply, which I didnt bother reading as it wont affect me...Now the for the interesting part... After July 1st if ANY P plater that is caught driving a high powered vehicle gets a 3 point fine and upto a $1100 fine...Oh and I'm off my P's/21 in December too, so I think after July 1st I'm parking my car and driving the EF (I only got 2 points left...)Hope that helps

Of course a 190kw NA engine in something that weighs 500kg is not dangerous You are not allowed to drive high powered vehicles includingvehicles with any of the following:• an engine that has a power output of more than 200kW; or• eight or more cylinders; or• a turbocharged or supercharged engine (except dieselpowered engines); or• an engine performance modification that is not standardto the original manufacturer’s vehicle specifications andrequires approval from an approved person; or• a rotary engine that has an engine capacity in excess of 1146ccAt least they are attempting to do something I guess, got to give them half a mark for that.
