Hey Guys,

This morning I was travelling down the Princes Highway minding my own business heading toward Cheltenham Rd, A cop sees me and pulls me over, and books me for power to weight, $113 fine and no demerit points. He was an good bloke to talk to but he warned me that when the 1st of July hits, if im caught driving my car it will be confiscated. THIS IS A WARNING TO ALL THE YOUNGENS OUT THERE BE CAREFUL OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR CAR!!!

Just thought I'd let you know..

Cheers

Is to do with age & the govt banning young people driving high HP cars??

If that's the case you'll have no insurance, so you'd be better to sell the car up or park it until you're old enough!

How old r u?

haha yeah I got it temporarily fixed this morning so I could drive it around, I got a temporary front bumper put on and they cut out the scrap metal behind it. When I was driving from the autobody shop to work I got pulled over. Im 20 and I am insured, do you think because im not allowed to drive the car legally im not insured? They said all was OK and I even made a claim the other day when someone hit me?

The new law that comes into effect on the 1st of July is no turbo, supercharged or performance enhanced vehicles during your probationary period. Turbocharged diesel cars are excluded from this. In Victoria at the moment P platers have a power to weight rule on certain cars and are banned from driving them. The XR6T is one of them.

$113 and no points. Is that all??? Here in NSW its nearly $500 and a whopping 7 points, which is an automatic licence suspension!

Somebody said they were pleased they didnt live in VIC, but we up here would all be happy with that sort of fine.

a guy at work has an EL XR8.. he turns 21 (off his Pz) in september... he got a letter from vicroads saying that he is exempt from the new rules that come in (power to weight) because otherwise he would have to buy another car.

he is a 2nd year apprentice, I think he used that to aid his case.

sorry to hear mate!

Hey Scribr,

I dont think the EL XR8 is over the power 2 weight??? isnt it about 180fwkw? Im probably wrong...

shnaped second, it doesnt matter what age your are when you are on your P's you should be abiding by this rule regardless, But yeah I kinda understand what your saying! So if you get your P's at 18 years old you cannot drive one till after your 21st bday (3 years)
