Yep, I have no doubt at all that the rods have been given hell, and why.

What chance the head is still good, really (like 50/50?), given that it appears from what I have been told that a rod and piston have gone though the block & sump?

I'm pretty sure your head will not have suffered any damage, as all the force is downward.

Good luck with the repair :spit:

Guys just keep in mind the water would have had to been headlight height to have entred into the intake but good reason for insurance though. Has it had a tune and if so id be ringing there kneck.

Well, actually, having not slept at all last night, I had time to think on this.

The CAI is of course the APS PHII job which is as you say, a headlight intake, to an airbox that would hold litres of water, then through K&N filter 'n oil (in my case) - no, not that.

BUT, of course, we are all thinking intakes, but intakes go to compressors, go to coolers........but a cooler should be high pressure OUT no way water getting IN there (!)...busted hoses, nah, anyway nice thoughts.

I know why, trust me I know why this has happened, and it isn't water.

That definately isnt a good sight looking at those pictures..Could something like this happen from a bad batch of fuel if the tune is on the edge??

My old ute copped a gobful of water from the wake caused by a f'wit 4x4 driver. So no you don’t have to be driving through 1 meter of water for it to happen.

Tune right on the edge? With the hardware list installed and a quality AUTOTECH installation start to finish and a quality AUTOTECH tune, you wouldn't expect a tune 'right on the edge',would you...assuming it was tuned properly, and didn't suffer long term abuse from 'issues' of course, making the engine itself sloooooowly become the 'fuse'.

Bad fuel. No. I do not believe so in this case, most definately not, it would have made no difference anyway in hindsight - hindsight is a wonderful thing :)

Cheers mate!

More later.

So how about you tell us.....??? As is probably wasn't the tune either. Most people are running out of ideas and I'm sure everyone would like to know what could cause the engine to destroy itself while slowly negotiating a roundabout.
