Any gurus out there who can suggest where I might look for the damage? Fire on RHS (turbo), but found one piece of metal on LHS of engine bay, but can't see any external damage, but no tools or trolley jack, or advice, as my mechanic neighbour is away for the long weekend, so I can't get a proper look yet.

Maybe the photos give some hint as to where I can look tommorrow (when neighbour home) before I begin a no doubt LONG road to recovery? It would be 'nice' to see/know before I get to a mechanic.

Safe to say that you have found the limit of your rods :spoton:

The photos show bits of Piston, Block and the Aluminium Sump, so prepare yourself that the only re-usable part of yopur engine will be the head and all the external bits, as well as hopefully the Turbo.

Count yourself lucky that your car didn't go up in flames, which is a real possibility when the rods let go, and trow oil azll over the place

Taking a gulp of water in that rain could have caused it... depending on where your intake is of and or how much water you drove thru, HYDRAULIC LOCK, I have done it to a mate's 4 wheeler..... water just dont burn as well as fuel... Or if your sure it was'nt that id be talking to your tuner...

Anywayz sorry to hear buddy... good luck with it all

Yep, I have no doubt at all that the rods have been given hell, and why.

What chance the head is still good, really (like 50/50?), given that it appears from what I have been told that a rod and piston have gone though the block & sump?

forget the water igniting - it's trying to compress the dam stuff at a ratio of 10 to 1 that leads to the metallurgic challenge.... :ermm: .....and yep - that could well be one of the contributors to this minor catastrophe! Time for a short motor or block from Ford for starters.... then off for play time. Good luck with the rebuild dude - keep us up to speed!

I think what Lamer is trying to say is, that your insurance COULD cover the damage if it's from water :ermm:

Guys just keep in mind the water would have had to been headlight height to have entred into the intake but good reason for insurance though. Has it had a tune and if so id be ringing there kneck.
