Apologies to those Vics who may be able to drive but, fact is, I have driven extensively throughout most mainland states and Vics are undoubtedly the worst. No idea about manners, and particulalry bad when it comes to changing lanes - it just doesn't occur to them at all that another vehicle may actually be occupying the space they intend veering into.

I'm not refrerring to road rules here - just totally inept drivers.

Well I'm putting my vote in for the ACT..

Both my wife and I have been driving for more than 12 years each, predominately in NSW, Vic and QLD without any accidents.

No sooner do we land in Canberra then we have managed to be in voled in an accident each in the last month! Neither of which I might point out we were the drivers at fault.

It seams that ACT drivers like too:

1. Tailgate like their life depended on it. Seriously, I have been tailgated several times so closely that I thought I had a hemeroid! And it does not matter if you happed to be the only two vehicle on a straight stretch of road, they WILL TAILGATE YOU!

2. ACT drivers have no concept of merging into traffic. Most of them slow down excessively or stop where they should be seamless merging.

3. They seam to be fairly selfish drivers. You can expect that in Sydney where if you leave a 2cm gap some one will try to cut in on you but in Canberra where the traffic is less hectic you would think that they could be more curious.

I'm scared to death thinking that I might have another accident when I get my new XRT...

Regards,

Isher

Ive voted for ACT as well I assume that is the Public Servant button (less than 40% public servants here now)

For utter stupidity Canberra drivers win hands down

1 merging

2 excessive speed in the wet

3 tailgating

4 selfishness

5 right lane hogging

6 drive 20 kmh under limit in winding/narrow sections only to speed up to 20 kmh over limit in overtaking lanes/opportunitys for the freight train behind to get past.

I do a lot of driving all over the country and if I see ACT plates I always give that car a very wide berth.

No doubt for me, Canberra. I've lived and driven in NSW, ACT, VIC, WA and NT.

Canberrans are the most aggressive drivers I've ever met.

Road rules for survival in Canberra: ;)

If you wish to change lanes DO NOT INDICATE until the last minute, better still, hit the indicator as you are changing, if you don't, whoever is in the lane next to you will speed up and block you out.

Merging traffic is not about co-operation, it's a contest of wit, will and dare, it's better to stop, block the lane, run off the road or sideswipe than be behind that pushy so and so next to you...

Kangaroos are moving speed bumps, just plough them down and keep going, let parks and wildlife clear the road.

You should be awarded a medal for your civic mindedness, sit in the right lane and drive at the speed limit, if anyone wants to pass you, they are speeding so you are well within your rights to block them, on the tuggeranong HWY for example.

P.S Apologies to rational Canberrans, it was a great place to live!
