someone mentioned in another thread that they would like to know if it were possible to remote tune their car as noone in their area was capable/competant of doing it and therefore a long drive was the only way... I too am interested to see if this were possible as I live in a remote area also.

so, if we have access to a dyno and computer with internet etc... could a tuner in lets say sydney, tune a car in darwin?

what would be required? im guessing the the local computer would need the SCT software, anything else?

So you wouldn't trust the tuner in the area to tune your car, but you have to entrust that person to run your car up on the dyno, check AFR's, boost curve, ignition timing advance and then input the final figures in your CAPA box as they are the ones that have access to the software? :w00t2:

That sounds like a bit of an oversimplification of the issues we have living here. For example the tuner up here in Darwin has very little experience with the software, but is a competent dyno operator and has been running cars on the dyno for many years.

Why does the local person need to check AFRs, boost, ignition etc? The point of what he's talking about is that the tuner could see exactly what they can see if the car is sitting in front of them - the whole PC screen over a remote connection where they can read logs, and set parameters themselves without the local person touching it.

well I was thinking that basically the local guy acts like monkey and makes the changes advised by expert tuner over the phone etc... just reads the data and tells him what to do...run it up again and same again etc... I dont think anyone has developed a remote interface so cant do it that way???

I just thought there would have to be a lot of back and forth faxs or emails with apprpiate data/changes attached or somthing like that???

why would you need a remote interface?

from what I can see the tuning software runs on windows - so its as simple as a remote desktop connection (a feature built-in to windows). tuner can see the desktop and all applications running on it including the tuning software.

to me, it sounds feasible. there seems to be no technical reason why not.

whether a tuner would be happy to do it or not, is another issue. I can imagine I might offend the local dyno operator though - reducing them to monkey status.

your car can be tuned. Best bet is to talk to Simon from Xtreme Ford Tuning he'll point you in the right direction
