C&V Generic Tune Not so good.

Not writing this to flame anyone just to express my experiences.

Which is what this forum is about.

Got my generic tune from C&V last week.

Good service with delivering the box etc.

Flashed the 10 PSI..

Seemed ok. Far from what I expect though. (have lots of mates that have tunes).

Found that boost came on real late and auto didn't shift right. Seemed like the auto took far to long to disengage the next gear.

Few days later.

Flashed the 8 psi tune.

Seemed to have more down low, less up high but auto didn't shift right and wasn't as quick as I thought it should be.

Was a bit worried with the auto changing like it did and we all know the 4 speed Auto's are weak so instead of breaking it I rang a local tuner. I won't name them for obvious reasons.

Talked to him for a bit on phone. With the end result being take it in to them so they can look at it. They said no charge at this stage. Cool I thought.

Went in there today.

They took it for a drive and said this isn't right. Running 10 PSI with the wrong settings would long term damage my auto plus other things. They figured that the auto settings must either be wrong or not touched.

They said a Custom tune is the way to go and basically the best way to go with the T's, but he wouldn't recommend I continue to run this tune. They said I was best to run the Capa Generic tunes as they have modified lots of things inc the Auto shift times. This is the problem for the sift problems I've been having.

He flashed the box with the Generic Capa Tunes till I can afford a Custom tune. All for no charge.

Currently running the 8psi Capa Generic tune.

My report is the car goes harder and I'm only running the 8psi Capa tune. Plus the biggest thing you can notice is the auto shifts heaps quicker and doesn't lag on change at high boost. Another big thing I noticed was the power was all through the rev range. So it drives hard from 1st to 4th @ 160km/h.

In summary obviously the Generic tunes aren't the way to fly. Good for a quick bit of power but will break something if not done correctly.

as for generic tunes, I've found the 8psi capa one is better overall in power than c&v's 10psi one, and the auto shifts hell of a lot nicer too.

Be interesting to get other ppl opinions and thoughts.

I've found the CV generic tunes to be fantastic, I guess it just varies from car to car..

I not saying the C&V tune was bad. I'm just saying others are better.

Maybe C&V Dont touch the Auto mapping in the Generic tune or other settings like they do in the Capa generic tune.

Any Tuners out there willing to comment...

crap!

well my 10psi 1 was making great power.. but it went up to 15psi @ one stage which scared the crap outa me (me thinks might b lucky I was running octane booster @ the time).. so im back to the 8 psi tune now... seems to be not bad.. no clutch killer though.. as the pull is,as mentioned, up high.

hopefully people can pay for their injectors soon and I can get a tune ASAP!

its not the tunes guy's, its the cars, they are all a bit different, even standed, and need custom tunning to suit your cars, some car they will suit, some they can destroy.

David, That is spot on.

Unfortunately too many people do not realise this and think that by using a 10psi generic tune on two "standard" cars will produce power and more importantly be safe.

Even cars with the most minor mods, such as air filter are different and need different tunes ...

Custom tunes are the right way to go...

Octante booster has nothing to do with a boost spike dude. Unless you were running c16 as an octane enhancement and blew your cat to 1000 pieces out the rear of the car, then you might see some boost spike

It would have more to do with the wastegate open duty cycle scaling if the rest of your intake and exhaust is standard. Though your off the shelf boost gauges aint always accurate, however they wont be 5psi out.

They will produce more power, but be safe? Exactly right, they wont

But even then the generic tune didn't offer any shiftpoint modifications over the standard calibration. The CAPA generic tunes have it, it doesn't appear to be a huge issue there, without it I would be seriously questioning the longevity of your transmission.

Fattony ... auto settings and shift points are one thing .. but I was only pointing out the fact that cars are different and using generic tunes can be disasterous to engines !!
