After reading about these turbo failures I'm beginning to worry. What sort of km's and mods have been done to the cars that are having failures. The last thing I want or need after out laying for a car is to then have to pay for another turbo.

Previous owner got the whole intake chromed, I guess this would alleviate this issue? If its about FOD (Foreign Object Debris) going into the turbo then, having the inside of the intake chromed is just asking for trouble in my opinion. Chrome is a hard metal applied by electroplating to a parent metal. Unless this is 150% there is always a chance for that chrome to flake and find its way into the blades. If paint can do damage then chrome is sure to!!!. Just my opinion

Just my opinionI'd get it sand blasted inside if need be, but not chromed.I'm a newbie to this site and am in the process of buying/trying to buy an secondhand XR6T. Doing this you'll be doing as much as one can to eliminate turbo failure due oil starvation anyway. Oh, and if you mod, get billet oil pump gears. As for debris getting through to the turbo, check the intake piping including crossover for faults or failures (say every time you change oil for example), making sure keep it all as clean as possible. In other words, maintenance is key. Could of very easily gone down into the turbo so I ended up pulling all the ducting out checking it out and cleaning all the paint off the ends of the crossover. So when removing the ducting be very carful.
