If they didn't need them they wouldn't be there in the first place. they are there so when you let your foot of the go pedal and the butterfly closes the air will try to escape as it is still being compressed by the turbo because it is still spining, and there are only 2 ways out, back through the turbo or through a BOV. what do you think is going to happen to the compressor wheel on your turbo if everytime the butterfly closes it has air trying to escape back through it while it is still trying to compress the air in there because the gasses from the engine are still turning the compressor wheel. so basicly you have each side of the turbo fighting each other as they are both trying to slow donwn at differnt rates. Not to mention all the undue strain on the whole intake system as you have air traveling 2 different directions. It also creates lag as the turbo will slow down more than it normally would have if you had a BOV.

Diesels don't make vacuum, because there's no butterfly in the throttlebody that closes when you let off the go pedal. Therefore, there's no need for a BOV because all the charged air just ends up being used. and you actually can get a BOV for trucks that hook into the ECU are activated by throttle position.

there is already a few posts on this in the tech forums...also there is a few tuners that hav stage 2 upgrade kits for these cars and they dont even use a bov at all...so I think its one of those topics that every1 has a diff opinion on...but it works well so far....actually feels a lil faster....but yea lots of people hav done this without causing any damage....so I dunno...individual choice n risk I think..... :stupid:

Well you would have herd both sides of the story and you can make up your own mind, just saying that knowing the risk, I wouldn't do it. how much is a BOV compared to replacing a turbo.

VL turbos had a bush bearing turbo, not a ball bearing turbo. ball bearing turbos have a smaller shaft due to the size of the actual bearings.
