I'm new here so probably shouldn't rock the boat to much, and obviously I wasn't there so its hard to know - but just reading that post concerns me.

FWIW I was young enough to be stupid not that long ago and did some VERY dumb stuff - I also very nearly died when I spun a car at close to 200km/h. After that I decided that intentionaly driving fast on the road was stupid and took up rallying. I still like to drive quickly, but I'm a hell of a lot safer now since I can get rid of my 'need for speed' away from other motorists.

I guess my major concern is that a lot of 18 - 20 yo are in seriously fast machinery these days - 15 odd years ago when I was in that catagory I was driving a GSR Lancer and later a Sigma Turbo - both where pretty evil handling cars and when you pushed them too hard and lost them you weren't going that fast - once you get (say) a WRX to the point of no return you are doing a pretty high rate of knots - inexperienced drivers have been crashing cars since the model T - its just that speeds are getting higher.

FWIW - I don't have any solutions - I was bullet proof too and it took a pretty serious wake up call to make me realise I wasn't - my advice to those that think they are a good driver (and if I and all my mates are anything to go by) that's the majority - get involved in organised motorsport - a) you'll probably very quickly realise you aren't as good as you think you are (it certainly did for me) and b) You'll probably learn a lot, keep your licence and not kill yourself/anyone else.

- For what was going to be a quick second post on this board, it turned into a novel :spoton:

Apparently the "hoon" solution is to put ads on TV that show people wiggling their pinky at P platers doing burnouts.

It is meant to infer they have small dicks when they do a burnout. I wonder how much the consultant was that though of that little gem :tonguepoke:
