Which Air Filter Is The Best

Hi all.

Whats the best value for price air filter to stick onto a BF XR6T to get the best power and sound from the turbo?

My cousin has a BA XR8 and he put a K&N style POD filter on his, which came with a cold air snorkel which attaches to the pod shaped air cleaner housing. That made a huge difference to the sound and responsiveness of the car.

The stock airbox on my car is a square one with a panel type paper filter. I've been told a POD style filter will make a louder induction sound (which is good!) and give it some extra performance (a lil bit).

Have you guys just done your own modifications and put a POD filter inside the stock square air box, or have you got one of the round style air cleaner housings and put a POD into that? (like the XR8's)

I want to keep it relatively simple. I.e. no changing of the battery to the other side, and no excessive new custom pipe work...etc.

Cheers.

Mike.

Just did a bit of looking around on the B.P.T website.

http://norcom.net.au/~bpt/photogallery/pho....%206%20cyl.JPG

Falcon BA 4.0L Cold Air Kit, 6cyl Turbo, excluding filter $335.00

Filter K&N Pod style $150.00 (~10kw gain)

Filter BMC Pod style $190.00 (~12kw gain)

Filter King Dragon Pod style $170.00 (~12kw gain)

Does that sound about normal for this kind of setup? And if so is this the type of setup that most people would go for?

Thanks.

I went with the K&N panel filter, preformance wise there's not a noticable difference. Althou it does allow alot more air throu as the factory BOV is herd alot lower in the rev range.

I've driven a BA-T with the K&N pod filter, and it sounds alot better than the panel. The KW gains are alittle less than your approximations, as the air flow is already pretty good with the stock set up.

I've done the BOV mod yesterday (vented into atmosphere with filter) and it sounds great from inside the car.

Just out of curiosity today I ran the car without the airbox and the filter (only around the block), and it sounded absolutely awesome!! its exactly how I want the car to sound.

You could really hear the turbo spooling up, and it was even dosing a bit too. It sounded great!

Sooo ....

Will putting a POD filter and XR8 round airbox (in the place of the standard square airbox) with the two intakes (one under the headlight and one above the radiator) give it a similar sound? If so I'll go out and buy one tomorrow I was that impressed.

I just replaced the standard paper filter with a Redline performance filter. Same construction as the K&N but was only $50.

Ive always thought the round type of POD filters are pointless for performance as they just suck in hot air from the engine bay which defeats the purpose. Others I think disagree, unless you have the 2nd CAI setup.

Well I bit the bullet and purchased the Typhoon lower airbox CAI and a KingDragon panel air filter.

Very impressed with the extra sound and performance gain. Much worth the $$$.

Doses nice and loud now, its audible from outside which is great! Before you could only hear those sounds from within the car.

Yes they are mate, you have to put them in an airbox to work best
