Pack a jumper, it gets feakin cold... and ugg boots if you want to blend in with the locals.

Imagine a large country town, that's canberra... roads are great though, very smooth, wide and bugger all traffic.

Bridge is closed there, Ivy. To get back to Canberra you need to do a U turn and go back through the Cotter. Corin Forrest Bobsled/Alpine Slide is out that way (about halfway between Cotter and Tharwa, after Tidbinbilla) and is worth a look. They close the slide in Winter as it snows out there, not really enough to ski on, maybe ok for toboggoning but mostly just for sightseeing.

Still closed? I thought they would have sorted it out by now.

You don't need to go all the way back through the Cotter, shortly after the turn off to Corin Forrest on the left hand side is a turn off to get back to Tuggeranong via Point Hut Crossing. I used this road when the bridge was closed.

cool as! thanks people. that's exactly what I was lookin for, very informative. will definately check those out cro.

when I say I like going out I ment id prefer good places to drink that arent over the top busy. im not really into the zoss/twister/circus bikky munching scene. :roflmbo:

ive heard so many people say bad things about canberra, ive got a picture in my head of some deserted country town with tumble weeds and where the sheriff bullies everyone. no ones allowed to run a business that involves people having fun.

Heaps of sports bars for drinks. And watch out for the cops. From my experience of Canberra, the Federal police, when they pull you over, they know less about the laws pertaining to our cars than most granny's!

Theres a mexican place underneath an office block, I can't remember it's name, but was quality food when I lived there. And theres 2 Indian restaurants, again, can't remember their names, but one was upstairs ontop of offices and the other was a couple of doors up from an Italian joint ??Trattoria with red/white checked table cloths. All three of these places are brilliant. I think if I remember correctly, the indian/italian joints were in Kingston?

there's heaps of "quieter" places for a drink, I think you'll be fine mate :spoton: as Envy said, plenty of sports clubs.

As for the cops, I've never had an issue when them here. Except for the time I went flying past an unmarked car :crybaby:

Fireworks only available for a week or so leading up to Queens Birthday weekend.

Don't think Aust Post would allow fireworks in the mail.

well I I got back last night and have to fly back up in 5 and a half hours.

its an interesting place. lots of circles :spoton:

im living in dickson and working in barton. which only takes around 10 mins to get to. I laughed at how the people at work said dont go down northbourne av, as traffic gets heavy at peak hour. I think it adds 3 mins to my travel time. they havent been in melbourne peak hour.

except for the first day I was coming home from work. I got a bit lost and ended up on the tuggeranong pkwy, dont ask me how. but I got to see alot of canberra that day. I was getting worried whe the telstra tower was still on my right hand side.

havent really had a chance to go out yet. think I gonna go to the ice hockey on saturday night, coz melbournes playing canberra. ive heard its alright.

does anyone know if that moose head bar is any good. $1 drinks sounds mighty cheap.

if anyone see's a black BA typhoon with personalised Vic plates. that's me. im usually pretty friendly so feel free to have a chat if you see me round.
