Cruise control maintains speed, speed is measured at the wheels, there's no way that it will cause your car to gain speed (or launch itself like an aeroplane).

As mentioned previously it's a load of crap. It's an urban myth that's done the rounds several times; there's probably a few threads on here already devoted to it.

I agree, though I dont agree with him much.

Aquaplaining if there is sufficient water on the road will occur and at times cause you to lose control, but blameing the cruise control is cluthcing at straws. More chances of a blowout happening than cruise control causing aquaplining and subsequent flying through the air.

So was your car:

Yes I agree you'd be brain-dead to use cruise control when there's water lying on the road, but this email is full of BS. Surely you must admit that Blonky?

Were does the ECU get the speed from for CC? Does it take into account RPM and Gearing, is there a sensor on all four wheels or just the rear. If we new this information then we could make an educated decision.

I believe that RPM gearing, also sensors in the front wheels as part of the ABS all contribute to the data going to the ECU for speed.

If this is the case an aquaplanning front wheels will slow and the rears will speed up, we all know that it is not to hard to overide traction control on these things. If you never have, leave tractuion control set to on, and accelerate hard from stop on a slippery surface, you will soon be merry spinning the rears.
