I use to charge $35 an hour until a smart bloke told me (a member of this site) that im under charging.... I now charge $45 an hour and have more work then I can poke a stick at. and more on some jobs!!98% of my work is new work and I definately am happy with whats happening ATM... that said I dont do project builders that pay didly squat... It isnt worth while my time and effort and thre are no profits to be made... I dont understand why people work for next to nothing as there is no need to. I have my SQM rates that I stick to and I will not come downon them... There is so much work out there... an average 350sqm house should pull in around $21K + GST.I am happy with the way construction is moving ahead atm!!the southern states make much better money though Edited 11/05/07 06:37 AM by jetute

I now charge $45 an hour and have more work then I can poke a stick at. and more on some jobs!!Good bloke too I heard..!!Pity your not up north here mate you could charge me 60.........Turbofalke, I am also a PM / CM and most construction workers here on average are taking home $1800pw with a 6 hour saturday, 10 hour weekday, RDO's PH's, sic, super, bus, and redundancy..... And we are losing them weekly to the mines who are paying much more..... The army and the police force cannot even keep staff in NQ at the moment because some of these guys can leave there (mostly) cruisey government number, negoitiate an enourmous AWA and take home up to 3 grand a week.... What Turtle says is exactly right.. He is domestic builder and knows tradies and his rates well.. I doubt if you work for any of the top 5 construction companies because the rates and wages you talk about are pre 2004 rates... Not in touch with large scale construction...... We are also known to keeping a party in if we are happy and secure, this is the country at the moment.

Maybe Kevin Rudd will bring some new eyes and ears to what will innevitably be the same old.....my personal situation will probably not be affected either way, but I know my frustration with Howard and his bunch of merry men will see me looking for a Labour box to tick come election time

Peter Costello a snake ? Just maybe the best treasurer this country has seen and has recovered this country from the deep mire it was in under Labor. Costello should probably receive more credit than Howard for the country's current well being as he has been instrumental in the running of the machinations of government policy and investment.( note invest, spend is what Labor does and then willy nilly when they do)As for cRudd he is one of the grubbiest individuals to come out of Qld (Tab excepted), if Costello is a snake this guy is a snake oil salesman !! Did any one listen to the mono tone drivel that was the oppositions reply to the budget? Talk about a squandered opportunity in an election year pppfffft. No rebuttal, no alternate strategy, just token acceptance of the Governments position. This was a Labors big chance to offer an alternative, what did they do ...... nothing, absolutely feeble at best. The Rudd honeymoon is over and the press are onto his latest and dwindling perception that he can LEAD this country. As for Gillard , mark my words, she will become a politcal Albatross before too much time elapses. In short the "norms" will be better off working hard , negotiating profitable AWAs and generating some individual wealth in the current positive environment or be muzzled and down trodden by the needs of the union coffers in furthering their own needs in the future.Which is of course control of the Labor party. Don't kid yourself that Rudd is not a controlled puppet of the union movement .If he wasn't he would not be there, and if he isn't he won't stay.Australians will get there chance to vote, though it would appear that the great unwashed are unable to understand the simple philosophies required to successfully manage a nation PS The Libs in NSW are a farce if we can re-elect Labor given the absolute shammozzle this joint is in, farking disgrace given the revenue they recieve per capita V other geographiesAnd no sorry I was not going to agree
